Among the five main forces, the most famous is the integrated 74th Division, that is, the 74th Army, which has made great achievements during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression and had great influence at that time. But among these five units, there is another unit that is not weaker than the integrated 74th Division, that is, the integrated 11th Division.
The entire 11th Division was reorganized from the 18th Army, which was the starting force of the Civil Engineering Department and the veteran unit of the Kuomintang Army. During the Battle of Songhu, the 18th Army fought very fiercely, and in the Luodian Battlefield and the Japanese 11th Division arrived for several weeks, suffering heavy casualties, and the 67th Division of the 18th Army fought less than one regiment under the command of Huang Wei. After the liberation war began, Hu Lian served as the commander of the reorganized 11th Division, Nakano, and Huaye repeatedly gathered heavy troops to try to encircle and annihilate this unit, but not only did not succeed, but suffered heavy losses.
In 1948, the reorganized 11th Division resumed the designation of the 18th Army, and its commander, Yang Botao. In the second stage of the Huaihai Campaign, the 12th Corps of the Kuomintang Army, led by the 18th Army, was surrounded by the Central Plains Field Corps in the Shuangduiji area, and the 12th Corps was the main force of the Nationalist Army, especially the 18th Army, which was very strong in combat effectiveness.
During the Battle of Shuangduiji, the other units of the Nationalist army stopped desperately resisting after finding the situation irreversible, but the resistance of the 18th Army was extremely tenacious, and Nakano was also the first time to encounter such a strong opponent. After the Nakano 3rd Column and 8th Brigade captured Yang Dazhuang, they did not expect that the 11th Division of the 18th Army had carried out a large-scale counterattack, the 11th Division concentrated dozens of cannons to carry out a fierce attack on Yang Dazhuang, the Nationalist Air Force units also continued to carry out large-scale bombardment of Nakano, the officers and men of the 11th Division, under the cover of eight tanks, constantly counterattacked the PLA positions, and also rushed into the Dawangzhuang on many occasions, and carried out fierce street battles. Some of the fighters, armed with grenades and explosives packets, dug under the tanks, and the bodies of both sides piled up all over the trenches.
In the final stage of the double-pile set, the 33rd Regiment of the 18th Army, a strong brigade of the Nationalist Army, held the southern gate of the headquarters of the 12th Corps, and the 33rd Regiment Tiger Regiment stopped the PLA for several days. In the end, the seventh column of Huaye and the sixth column of Nakano successively threw four regiments into the 33rd regiment under the fierce artillery fire, and the 3,000 officers and men of the 33rd regiment of the 18th Army did not surrender, and this battle also frightened and surrendered a main regiment of the 85th Army, which Xiaowangzhuang saw as lively.
The destruction of the Tiger Regiment of the 18th Army caused the 12th Corps to lose its last barrier, and finally Huang Wei and Hu Lian ordered a dispersed breakthrough, but Huang Wei was captured in the process of breaking through, and the 12th Corps was destroyed by Nakano and HuaYe.
