During the Liberation War, many Nationalist generals were beaten to death, captured, or committed suicide. However, Hu Lian, however, in the siege of the People's Liberation Army, miraculously escaped at the last moment again and again.
During the Battle of Huaihai, Huang Wei was the commander of the 12th Corps of the Nationalist Army, and Hu Lian was the deputy commander. After the battle, the Twelfth Corps was completely destroyed on the battlefield. Huang Wei, Wu Shaozhou, Yang Botao, Qin Daoshan, and other high-ranking generals were captured and became prisoners, while Hu Lian escaped.

Huang Wei said to Xiao Rui, chief of staff: "Send a report to Nanjing, send a report to President Jiang!" The attack was so urgent that I only had a double stack of positions left, and I insisted on breaking through overnight! ”
Soon, Xiao Rui returned with a telegram in his hand and said, "Jiang will not allow us to break through, and asks us to persist until tomorrow daylight and break through under the cover of the Air Force!"
In this regard, Deputy Commander Wu Shaozhou, Commander Yang Botao of the Eighteenth Army, and Qin Daoshan, Commander of the Tenth Army, were very anxious.
Hu Lian said: "The president does not agree with our breakthrough! How can this be done? ”

However, this new tank has malfunctioned on the road. In the end, Huang Wei had to abandon the car and run away. On the way to escape, he failed to jump out of the net laid down by the People's Liberation Army, and eventually became a prisoner.
Wu Shaozhou's tank was unable to pass when crossing a small river due to the collapse of the pontoon bridge, so he had to get out of the car and wait on the side of the road to be captured.
Yang Botao and his troops failed to rush out, seeing that the People's Liberation Army surrounded him, he jumped into the river, but because the river was shallow and the river was cold in winter, he had to climb ashore and was captured by the People's Liberation Army. Qin Daoshan was also captured in the rebel army.

When Hu Lian and the guards ran to the north bank of the Vortex River in a tank, they broke down due to running out of fuel and had to get out of the car and walk.
