During the Republic of China period, in the Kuomintang army at that time, there were many generals with very different personalities, and Huang Wei was one of the representative figures. Huang Wei was born in an ordinary rural family in Jiangxi, his father died very early, and then returned home as a teacher after graduating from normal school. In 1924, he was expelled from his hometown for propagating progressive ideas in school.

In 1924, under the arrangement of Fang Zhimin, Huang Wei found Zhao Xingnong, who was then the head of the underground provincial committee of the Communist Party of China in Jiangxi, and under his introduction, Huang Wei entered the Huangpu Phase I study. He and Chen Geng, Hu Zongnan, Gui Yongqing, Zheng Dongguo and others were all classmates, and they were promoted very quickly. In 1932, after graduating from the Army University, Huang Wei was promoted to brigade commander of the 31st Brigade of the 18th Army, and was deeply valued by Chen Cheng, and later gradually became the core general of the civil engineering department. In 1933, Huang Wei was promoted to commander of the 11th Division of the 18th Army.
At the beginning of 1937, Huang Wei was sent to Germany for further study, preparing to study for a year, but due to the outbreak of the Battle of Songhu, Huang Wei was recalled to China in advance. At that time, the Battle of Songhu was very fierce, the 18th Army led by Luo Zhuoying fought with the Japanese army in the strategic place of Luodian, a number of senior generals were killed, and Li Shusen, commander of the 67th Division of the 18th Army, was also seriously injured, and his position was urgently replaced by Huang Wei, who had just been recalled from Germany. In the face of the Japanese attack, Huang Wei led his troops to the front line, and in the end, the three main regiment leaders, one killed and two seriously injured, the division headquarters was left with a telegraphian, even the brother-in-law, the clerk was sent to the battlefield. When the 67th Division finally withdrew, the troops were not even alive for a regiment.
In 1938, Huang Wei served as the commander of the 18th Army. During the Battle of Wuhan, Huang Wei led the 11th Division of the 18th Army and the 67th Division to severely damage the Japanese Ninth Division. In 1939, Huang Wei served as the commander of the 54th Army, which was a unit of the Central Army, well-equipped and strong in combat effectiveness, but due to his poor relationship with Guan Linzheng, the commander-in-chief of the group army, he was soon transferred to Nanjing as a lieutenant general and senior staff, and then was responsible for training the youth army.
Unlike other Kuomintang generals, Huang Wei was deeply influenced by traditional Chinese culture and felt that soldiers should be loyal to the king and patriotic, and he was also one of the few generals in the Kuomintang army who never embezzled, ate empty salaries, and took concubines. Many people say that he is a nerd, the conductor is rigid and rigid, in fact, during the War of Resistance, he performed very well, not as the outside world rumored. The reason why Huang Wei was scolded by many people as a nerd was because he was more upright in the Kuomintang army, when Du Yuming failed in the first expeditionary force, Huang Wei went to check the loss of the troops, Du Yuming wanted Huang Wei, an old classmate, to be merciful, and invited him to dinner, but Huang Wei directly let him not get off the stage at the wine table and reported to his superiors as a matter of fact. Huang Wei's honesty and integrity made him seem out of place in the Kuomintang army, so many people rejected him.
For a long time during the Liberation War, Huang Wei always wanted to open a military academy to train a group of modern soldiers. In 1948, Huang Wei was appointed commander of the 12 corps. This unit is an elite unit of the Nationalist Army, under the jurisdiction of four armies and a rapid column, of which the 18th Army is still one of the five main forces of the Nationalist Army, the combat effectiveness is very strong, Nakano almost did not surround it at the beginning, or Huaye Chief of Staff Chen Shiqu led three infantry columns with heavy weapons to reinforce it before annihilating it.
After the Battle of Shuangduiji, Huang Wei said to Liu Changyi, the deputy commander of the Nakano Third Column, who had come to visit him: "You can now directly cross the Yangtze River. Liu Changyi was puzzled, and Huang Wei continued: "Those who can defeat me will definitely be able to defeat the national army in the south." Huang Wei was well aware of the importance of the Battle of Huaihai to both sides, and in this battle, all the elite forces of the Kuomintang army were annihilated, and there was no longer any power to return to heaven.
