The Ming Dynasty ancestor Zhu Di, the year name Yongle, so posterity called him Yongle Emperor, Yongle Emperor, Yongle Emperor and so on. In December of the 31st year of Hongwu's reign, in order to prevent Zhu Di's rebellion, the Jianwen Emperor Zhu Yunzhuo sent Zhang Fu (張昺), a servant of the Ministry of Works, as the envoy of Beiping, and Commanding Xie Gui and Zhang Xin as envoys to Beiping. Subsequently, he ordered the governor Song Zhongtun to garrison Kaiping and transfer rongxing under the command of the Yan King of the Northern Plains. After Zhu Di captured Nanjing, after rejecting repeated several days of persuasion from his supporters, he took the throne on July 17, 1402, but not zhu Yunjiao, but the ming emperor Zhu Yuanzhang. Ordered to vigorously search for qi tai, Huang Zicheng and other more than fifty Jianwen courtiers, Zhu Di also ordered all the laws and official systems drawn up by Emperor Taizu that Jianwen had changed, so as to indicate that his intention to raise troops was to restore the ancestral training. The Battle of Jingnan was the inevitable result of the intensification of the struggle around imperial power in the early Ming Dynasty, and after Zhu Di raised an army to seize the throne with a strong domain, there was no longer a strong domain in the north.

Then he prostrated his head and said, "Good Saint Sun." At that time, this sentence poked at Zhu Di's heart, and he meant that the saint sun was Zhu Zhanji, the son of Zhu Gaozi. Therefore, Zhu Di nodded thoughtfully and decided to make the emperor's eldest son the crown prince.
To a large extent, Zhu Gaozi was made crown prince because of the light of his son, so the father and son became the thorns in the eyes of Zhu Gaoxu and others, and the young Zhu Zhanji was also involved in this battle, but with his grandfather's liking for him, with his courage and wisdom, he could always help the former emperor to turn the crisis into safety, and finally made Zhu Gaoxu ascend to the emperor's throne. Who knew that Dad's throne was not yet hot, and he died of a violent illness ten months later. At that time, Zhu Zhanji was in Nanjing, and his uncle Zhu Gaoxu prepared to intercept the crown prince in the middle of the road and then establish himself as emperor.

However, Zhu Zhanji had long anticipated that the former emperor would be seriously ill and would soon die, so he left for Beijing in advance, and at that time Zhu Gaoxu had not yet sent someone to set up an ambush, and he did not expect that Zhu Zhanji would come so quickly. Originally, it was a mystery as to why Zhu Zhanji expected things to be like a god, and Zhu Gaoxu, who was closer to the capital in Le'an, Shandong, received the news of the emperor's death earlier:
There are many different records in the historical records, some saying that Zhu Gaoxu's assault on the crown prince Zhu Zhanji was only rumored, and that Zhu Zhanji came to the capital calmly after receiving a report of mourning from the inner line of the capital; there is also a conspiracy theory that Zhu Zhanji could not wait for his father Zhu Gaoji to pass the throne and murdered him, zhu Gaoxu's unnatural death, Zhu Gaoxu's unpreparedness, and Zhu Zhanji's calm ascension to the throne are mysteries left by previous history, but it can be certain that Zhu Zhanji arrived in the capital safely. After returning to Beijing, on the one hand, he properly handled the affairs of his father and emperor, on the other hand, he hurried to the vigilance of Beijing City to avoid someone taking advantage of the opportunity to cause trouble, and then calmly ascended the throne, changing the next year to the first year of Xuande, and starting his imperial livelihood.
