A few days ago, BYD Automobile announced the production and sales data for 2021, with production and sales of 97,274 units and 99,112 units in December, up 71.97% and 75.97% year-on-year, respectively; the annual production and sales in 2021 were 747,540 units and 740,131 units, respectively, up 74.79% and 73.34% year-on-year. Driven by the rapid growth of new energy vehicles, BYD's production and sales have maintained a continuous upward trend.

As we all know, new energy vehicles have become a booster for BYD's sales growth. In December, passenger car sales were 97,990 units, up 77.92% year-on-year. Among them, the sales of new energy passenger cars reached 92,823 units, an increase of 236.4% year-on-year, accounting for 94.73% of passenger car sales, exceeding the 90,000-unit mark for two consecutive months. In 2021, the sales volume of new energy passenger vehicles reached 593745 units, an increase of 231.6% year-on-year.

Among the sales of new energy passenger cars, BYD EV models and DM models sold 48,317 units and 44,506 units, respectively, an increase of 148.0% and 448.6% year-on-year; the cumulative sales of BYD EV models and DM models reached 320,810 units and 272935 units, respectively, an increase of 144.9% and 467.6% year-on-year. It can be seen that BYD's new generation of DM models have become a hot object in the market. At present, Geely, Great Wall, Changan, Chery and other independent brands have laid out hybrid tracks, and competition will be further intensified next year.

Compared with the soaring sales of new energy vehicles, fuel vehicles and commercial vehicles are gradually declining. In December, fuel vehicle sales were only 5,167 units, down 81.2% year-on-year, accounting for only 5.27% of passenger car sales, which has become a chicken rib; this year's cumulative sales of 136,348 units, down 42.54% year-on-year. Meanwhile, commercial vehicle sales this month were 1,122 units, down 10.02% year-on-year; cumulative sales this year were 10,038 units, down 5.61% year-on-year.

By model, the Sales volume of the Han series in December was 13,701 units, an increase of 13.33% year-on-year, of which the sales of Han EV models exceeded 10,000; the cumulative sales volume of the whole year was 117665 units, an increase of 190.13% year-on-year. Last year, the effective sales time of the Han series was only half a year, so the sales base was small, the year-on-year increase was larger, and the average monthly sales volume this year was nearly 10,000 vehicles, which has become a banner model of BYD, and also strengthened BYD's confidence in moving towards the high-end.

Qin series models sold 25,943 units this month, and annual sales were 194,220 units. Among them, the sales of Qin PLUS DM-i and Qin PLUS EVs were 17286 and 7001 units respectively, and the Qin PLUSDM models were listed, and the sales of the main Qin PLUS series models totaled about 170,000.

As a competitor to BYD, Tesla delivered 308,600 units in the fourth quarter of 2021, with total sales of more than 936,000 units for the whole year, an increase of about 87% year-on-year. Among them, the production of Model S and Model X models was 24,390 units, and the delivery volume was 24,964 units; the production of Model 3 and Model Y was 906032 units, and the delivery volume was 911208 units.

According to reports, BYD has revealed on investor conference calls that the company's new energy vehicle sales target in 2022 is about 1.1 million to 1.2 million, with sales growth of 80%-100%, and more than one million vehicles are in BYD's view. Among them, pure electric vehicles are expected to sell 600,000 units per year, an increase of about 90%,000; plug-in hybrid vehicles are expected to increase by 500,000-600,000 units per year between 805 and 120%, and higher expectations are placed on DM models.

In the future, BYD's automotive business will be composed of four sections: Dynasty.com, Ocean.com, Denza and high-end brands. In the hybrid model track, independent brands such as Geely and Great Wall have released hybrid power, and the new models will be listed in 2022 and will compete on the same stage with BYD DM models.
