01 First of all, the basic situation and the first impression
The dimensions of the new second-generation GS8 vary slightly depending on the powertrain.
The new car was born on the GPMA-L platform, the dual engine series length, width and height are 5015/1950/1780mm, wheelbase is 2920mm, two rows of seat backrests 8 gear adjustment, with a 131 ° adjustable range.
Note: The Pilot series is relatively short, with a length, width and height of 4980/1950/1780mm, and the wheelbase remains unchanged.
The author test-drove a hybrid version of the model (three-day test drive is two-wheel drive/four-wheel drive interspersed). The vehicle itself still follows the principle of making cars larger, cheaper, more luxurious and more conscientious of its own brands.
Its core components are from the world's first-class suppliers, including Aisin 8AT transmission, BorgWarner intelligent electro-hydraulic four-wheel drive system, Texas Instruments luxury car with the same DLP technology, Michelin high-performance tires, Alpine tailor-made advanced audio and so on.
In actual experience, this kind of "arrogance" can also be intuitively felt from the moment you get the car keys.
For example, the headlights part has a sense of "mecha" created by GAC Group in the past two years.
Rushing to this point, the second generation of GS8 can be promoted to become a new generation of light factory.
The second is to continue the front face design of the Trumpchi M8 Master Edition, other than that, the chrome trim of the front face and the exaggerated, complex air intakes, the glossy feeling created in the driving is really good-looking.
As for the rest, I'll just stick it, and everyone will have a different opinion.
The overall design of GAC Trumpchi's second-generation GS8 is very square, the area of the windows is also very large, to be honest, the last time I was able to find this kind of positive feeling in the city SUV (not the SUV with off-road positioning), or the GLK that has been discontinued.
The most direct benefit of the body side is that the window can play a large space, GS8 obviously also makes full use of this - the body window area is very large, which also means that the view of you sitting in the back row has become larger, and this is not the need to rely on the sunroof to create, which is quite rare in the current market.
For reference, the design of the new Highlander model is still biased towards an urban setting, that is, the third row of windows is relatively narrow and slightly slippery (compared to the second-generation GS8). The sense of space is naturally not as big as the second generation of GS8.

In the ride space, the floor inside the second-generation GS8 car is fully flat, and I sat barefoot 187 in the back seat with a distance of 1 punch.
The third row of space is a big attraction of the GS8, first of all, its platform is short enough, and it will not need to "high legs" like the Sai Na model. Secondly, like the new Infiniti QX60 reported by the earlier car, its second row of seats is equipped with a power folding button, which will press the seat forward and fold to make a passage for adults to get up and down.
At the same time, the third row of seats is also equipped with front seats with electric control folding buttons, which will be very convenient in daily use scenarios.
However, although the third row of electric buttons is convenient, it is recommended that it is better to configure a button to control each other at the left and right doors, so that sitting in the car, you do not have to extend your hands far to achieve the folding of the seat, or worry about the folding down of the back of the chair.
The third row of space is not bad, with my height, in the deep test drive process, I experienced a large section of the trip in the third row, and the body feel is much better than the Highlander.
In terms of interior layout, GAC Trumpchi's second-generation GS8 vehicle cancels a large number of physical buttons, and is equipped with a 12.3-inch instrument, a 14.6-inch central control screen and an AR-HUD (the head-up display of the new car is very clear)

The backrest of the front passenger of the second-generation Trumpchi GS8 can be completely flattened directly, which means that in the case of long-distance driving, the main co-pilot can make the seat into a bed in the rest area, as shown in the following figure, rest will be more comfortable.

I know you're most concerned about the dynamic driving experience. In particular, what is the difference between the performance of the dual engine version and the Highlander?
The guidance price of 246,800 yuan of the four-wheel drive premium version, the corresponding Highlander is about 80,000 expensive (the dealer price increase is not counted Ha), the dual engine two-wheel drive premium version, the corresponding Highlander is about 100,000 yuan (the dealer price increase is not counted ha), the event site will also pull the two together to the scene for comparison, basically all kinds of parameters can be directly experienced.
The new second-generation GS8 dual-engine series is equipped with 2.0TM + the new fourth-generation enhanced version of the THS II. Toyota hybrid system, of which the 2.0TM engine is the third-generation Miller cycle engine independently developed by GAC, with a maximum power of 140 kW, a maximum torque of 320 N·m, and a maximum thermal efficiency of 40.23%. The front drive motor has a maximum power of 134 kW and a maximum torque of 270 Nm. The maximum power of the rear drive motor is 40 kW, the maximum torque is 121 Nm, and the drivetrain is matched to the E-CVT transmission.
02 Let's talk about fuel consumption performance first.
GAC Trumpchi's second-generation GS8 NEDC has a fuel consumption of 5.3L/100km, and under normal conditions, it can run more than 1000km with a full tank of oil, and the mileage of a tank of oil can reach 2022 km under extreme testing.
The theme of this test drive is fuel saving race, starting from Fuzhou to fill up the oil cover.
Therefore, in the whole test drive, the level of fuel consumption performance, the peers participating in the test drive have riveted enough energy to think about how to save fuel in the case of full load of heating (the temperature in Fuzhou has plummeted recently, belonging to the wet and cold category, driving can not open the heating, the scene is too miserable).
For reference, under this premise, in the media of peers, the golden right foot stepped on the minimum fuel consumption of the four-wheel drive version to 6.1L.
According to tradition, the author still gave up the fuel saving race to have some results, in the test drive process, regardless of fuel consumption of driving, in the rapid braking and stepping, everything in the form of how to drive comfortable.
After the race, the fuel consumption is displayed at 8.5L per 100 kilometers, of course, because the mileage base is not large enough, I believe that as the mileage becomes longer, it will gradually become lower and stabilize. For reference, highlander, which was listed in April, has a highly stable fuel consumption of 6-7L, and the minimum performance is 6.1L/100ml when normal driving cannot save fuel.
The second-generation GS8 and Highlander performed almost identically.
03 Let's talk about the actual driving power performance.
At the time of the new car launch, GAC Trumpchi said that the acceleration time of the new second-generation GS8 dual engine series 0-100km/h was 6.9s. After the actual test drive, because it is mainly a non-closed site, the author did not conduct a 100 km acceleration test.
But it can be said responsibly that under the scene of multi-road driving, the overall control of the second-generation GS8 will still be more impulsive than Highlander, and Highlander's overall driving is a more Buddhist category, like warm water.
The second-generation GS8 feels very energetic when you are accelerating at full speed. When switching from low speed to high speed, the intervention of the engine will be more obvious than that of the Highlander, and when the speed is suddenly rushed, it will be sensory, giving people a shorter time difference. But the overall style is not too exciting, and the personal feeling is somewhere between the Trail Blazers 48V and the Highlander.
03 Four-wheel drive sensory performance.
Honestly, I personally think that if you're not a professional car critic, subjectively, it's hard to detect any big gap between it and Highlander.
In Quanzhou test drive for the cross-country field comparison, the second generation of GS8 BorgWarner four-wheel drive is still quite strong, the overall can be summarized into 13 words: four-wheel drive intervention is very fast, the performance of the rescue is better than the same level.
The experience includes cross-axles, double humps, bilateral bridges, circular arc side slopes, and a 36-degree sand slope to start from the half-slope, and the general car really can't get up. Wheel slip control is good, as a driver you just need to ensure your own speed.
04 Kinetic energy recovery will not have a sense of dragging.
No, as with Highlander's performance, kinetic energy recovery is almost no drag, but you can see the charging state of the power recovery from the meter, and the car can still glide far away in the charging state, which is great.
05 At the driving level, what do I think is the victory over Highlander?
NVH control. Honestly, I didn't hold out any hope before the test drive. After all, their hybrid systems are essentially the same as those of the city. The new Highlander's mute control is terrible (not excluding my expectations too high), and the second-generation GS8's mute control is much better.
In particular, the engine noise suppression was greatly unexpected, mainly in the rapid acceleration, far less than toyota's broken sound feeling. It seems that the money that GAC Trumpchi spent on soft decoration is not just a superficial effort, which is worthy of praise.
However, subjectively, I personally feel that the Pilot Version (fuel) will be quieter than the Dual Engine Premium Version (two-wheel drive/four-wheel drive).
Now the question is, is this car worth buying?
I personally think it is possible, after all, Toyota THS hybrid system has more than 20 years of technology accumulation, after four iterations, has gained more than 18 million users around the world, its stability is beyond doubt. And the highlander's outstanding performance has long been a myth for a 7-seater SUV (no matter how the sunspots spray).
And there's just one you need to consider.
Regardless of the configuration and luxury interior. The same double motor of the second generation of GS8 and Highlander dual engine, their difference of 80,000 yuan, can not buy your desire for bull head.
Taking 10,000 steps back, even if it is not as good as Highlander, the product strength of the second-generation GS8 can still be overshadowed by other opponents at the same level. Strong, still very strong.
