Shanghai is the birthplace of the Communist Party of China and the birthplace and center of the Communist Party of China's publishing industry.
This year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, in order to trace, review and display the glorious history and fruitful achievements of the party's early publications in Shanghai, the Museum of Modern and Contemporary China Press and Publications and the Shanghai Bookstore Publishing House jointly planned and launched the "Original Initial Heart - A Compilation of the Party's Early Publication Documents", which aims to compile, photocopy and publish the publications of the early publishing institutions of the Communist Party of China in Shanghai.
On December 16, the launch ceremony and publication symposium of "The Original Initial Intention - The Compilation of the Party's Early Publications" was held at the Memorial Hall of the Second National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and Zhao Shulei, director of the Shanghai Taofen Memorial Hall, presided over the meeting. Huang Qiang, secretary of the party committee and chairman of the board of directors of Shanghai Century Publishing Group, and Wang Weisong, secretary of the party group and full-time vice chairman of the Shanghai Federation of Social Societies, unveiled the new book.

Xu Jiong, deputy director of the Propaganda Department of the Municipal CPC Committee and director of the Municipal Press and Publication Bureau, pointed out that a number of early party publishing institutions, such as the New Youth Society, the People's Publishing House, the Shanghai Bookstore, the Changjiang Bookstore, and the Huaxing Bookstore, were all born in Shanghai, and they published and distributed a number of progressive works such as Marxist classics, which played a positive role in enlightening the masses, disseminating truth, ideological party building, and victory in the revolution. "The Original Initial Intention - A Compilation of the Party's Early Publication Documents" is a systematic collation and publishing project that deeply understands and strives to implement General Secretary Xi Jinping's important instructions on promoting the sinicization, modernization and popularization of Marxism, and is another achievement of the Shanghai publishing industry's efforts to promote the party's birthplace excavation and propaganda project, theoretical research and communication brand building, and also a collective celebration of the party's centennial birthday by the Shanghai publishing industry.
The eight-volume "Original Initial Intention - A Compilation of the Party's Early Publications" is the first systematic collation and photocopy of the early published books of the Communist Party of China in Shanghai, and the original copies used are mostly the first editions or rare early editions. Fifteen classic works with important representative and documentary and cultural relics values were selected and published in Shanghai from the books published and distributed by the Party's early publishing institutions, such as the New Youth Society, the People's Publishing House, the Shanghai Bookstore, the Changjiang Bookstore, and the Huaxing Bookstore, and published them in a bound manner.
The fifteen books are: "The Communist Manifesto", "The Communist Party's Bottom Plan", "The ABC of Communism", "Commenting on the Chinese and Western Cultural Views", "Women in the Future", "A Brief History of Social Evolution", "History of Socialism", "Discussion Collection of Socialism", "Collection of Papers on the Problems of the Chinese Revolution", "Outline of Economic Science", "The Economy after the European Peace Conference", "The Anatomy of Capitalism", "The Outline of World Economic Geography", "Principles of National Revolution", and "Tactics and Strategies".
The Communist Manifesto
From the perspective of the birth time and publishing institutions of the fifteen kinds of bibliographies, from 1920 to 1930, it spanned three periods of the founding of the Party, the Great Revolution and the Agrarian Revolutionary War, including the Most Important Publishing and Distribution Institutions of the Party in Shanghai in each period, such as the New Youth Society, the People's Publishing House, the Shanghai Bookstore, and the Huaxing Bookstore; from the perspective of the composition of the fifteen bibliographies, the main categories of the Party's early book publishing are included: that is, the original works of Marxist classics. It helps to study Marxism and observe various expositions and references of the socialist revolution in Soviet Russia, as well as the experience summary and theoretical exploration of the Chinese Communist Party's commitment to the dissemination of Marxism and its application to the practice of the Chinese revolution.
Among them are the original works of Marx and Engels, such as the Communist Manifesto, the Chinese Revolution and the European Revolution (included in the Principles of National Revolution); there are also important works of Russian Marxism, such as Bukharin's ABC of Communism, Pugdanov's Outline of Economic Science; and Chinese's own works, such as Chen Duxiu's "Collected Papers on the Chinese Revolution" and "Discussions on Socialism"; and Zhang Bojian's "A Brief History of Social Evolution". They show readers in their original form the stormy meetings of China's ideological circles in the early 20th century, how Marxist and communist literature penetrated into the spiritual world of Chinese, and how the socialist movement took root in China, and after several tribulations, it finally became today's towering trees and stood in the world. Huang Lizhi, a professor at the Philosophy Department of the Party School of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee of the Communist Party of China, said that reading and studying this set of books will definitely have many gains.
"The Original Initial Heart: A Compilation of the Party's Early Publications"
Hu Guoqiang, chairman of the Shanghai Publishing Association, mentioned that this year marks the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China, and the "Original Initial Intention - A Compilation of the Early Publications of the Party" provides us with first-hand literature with great research value for us to understand the history of the spread of Marxism in China and the history of the development of the ideological theory of the Communist Party of China. These documents contain many ideas and theses, which are the ideological memories of our Party in its infancy. In this sense, this set of compilations is not only a living cultural relic that has witnessed the growth of the party's century-old history, but also an ideological reference for us to write the second century of history.
In the view of Quan Yan Shaoyuan, an expert in party history research, the value of this set of books can be reflected in at least four aspects: from the group of editors, authors, and translators of this set of books, we can fully consider the extremely important position of the party's publishing cause in the process of the party's founding and struggle; through specific contents and introductions, we can examine the long-standing tradition and development process of theme publishing in the publishing history of the Communist Party of China; photocopied publishing, completely preserving the original ecological appearance of these books, can examine the narrative of our red publication in the white terror environment An in-depth analysis of the links between each publication and its predecessors and periodicals shows the progressive orientation of the Party's publishing institutions, publications, and publishers toward China's modern publishing industry.
Sun Yu, deputy editor-in-chief of Shanghai People's Publishing House and director of Shanghai Bookstore Publishing House, believes that the publication of this set of documents can help promote the in-depth study of Shanghai party history and Shanghai publishing history, and at the same time provide a unique set of historical texts for the study of the "four histories". Shanghai Bookstore Publishing House will also continue to cooperate with relevant departments and experts to continuously promote the excavation and publication of Shanghai's red cultural resources, and display and carry forward the glorious history and inheritance of the party's publication in Shanghai.
