Beijing, Dec. 21 (Xinhua) -- Since the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, the mainland has made historic achievements in the construction of a comprehensive transportation system. By the end of 2022, the total length of the national comprehensive transportation network exceeded 6 million kilometers, and the completion rate of the national comprehensive three-dimensional transportation network was about 78.6%, and the completion rate of the main skeleton line was about 87%.
In the past 10 years, the mainland has built the world's largest high-speed railway network, highway network, and world-class port cluster, and has air and navigation connections to the world. China's high-speed rail, China Road, China Bridge, China Port, and China Express have become beautiful "Chinese business cards".
In the past 10 years, the coverage rate of high-speed railways and expressways in mainland China has exceeded 95% for cities with a population of more than 200,000. Transportation has shortened the distance between time and space, accelerated the flow of materials and people, and provided strong support for expanding domestic demand, stabilizing growth, and ensuring people's livelihood.
This year is a year of economic recovery and development after three years of new crown epidemic prevention and control. The context of the national comprehensive three-dimensional transportation network has become clearer, and the construction of a transportation power has been accelerated.
"People enjoy their travel", and the comprehensive transportation service is more convenient, ensuring the flow of 4.73 billion people during the Spring Festival in 2023 and 2.204 billion people during the Mid-Autumn Festival and National Day holidays. From January to November this year, the cross-regional flow of people (the scale of cross-regional flow of people between international, intercity, urban-rural business, tourism, etc.) was 55.59 billion, an increase of 34.8% year-on-year.

As a pilot major infrastructure project for the construction of Hainan Free Trade Port and the creation of an international tourism consumption center, the Hainan Island Tourist Highway was opened to traffic on December 18.
In the past 10 years, the length of mainland highways has increased by 1.12 million kilometers. In the past 10 years, the strategic supporting role of civil aviation transport has become more prominent. Focusing on serving the national regional development strategy, it has vigorously promoted the construction of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Yangtze River Delta, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and the Chengdu-Chongqing world-class airport cluster. A number of major projects such as the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge, the Beijing-Zhangjiakou High-speed Railway, and the Beijing Daxing Airport have been put into operation, the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Yangtze River Delta and other regional transportation networks have been completed, and the construction of a number of major projects such as the Sichuan-Tibet Railway and Highway Supporting Project, the Western Land-Sea New Passage (Pinglu) Canal Project, and the North Container Terminal of Xiaoyangshan has been accelerated.

The investment in fixed assets in transportation continues to operate at a high level, providing strong service support for stabilizing investment, expanding domestic demand, stabilizing employment and ensuring people's livelihood. From January to November this year, the investment in fixed assets of transportation was 3.6 trillion yuan. Since the beginning of this year, 1,700 kilometers of new high-speed railways, more than 7,000 kilometers of newly reconstructed (expanded) expressways, more than 160,000 kilometers of newly reconstructed rural roads, 1,000 kilometers of new and improved high-grade waterways, 2 newly certified civil transport airports, and more than 360 kilometers of new urban rail transit operating mileage.
The just-concluded Central Economic Work Conference emphasized that "it is necessary to stimulate potential consumption, expand effective investment, and form a virtuous circle in which consumption and investment promote each other" and "effectively reduce the logistics cost of the whole society".
