Salvatore Calabrese thought of his most famous cocktail, the Breakfast Martini, while eating breakfast.

One morning in 1996, his wife insisted that he try an English breakfast of jam and toast, and Salvador reluctantly sat down to try it. But soon, the fresh and rich flavor of the orange jam made him feel like a treasure. He took all the jam from his family to the Library Bar, where he worked at the time. That night, Breakfast Martini was born.

Approach: Breakfast Martini

50 ml gin

15 ml Cointreau

15 ml fresh lemon juice

1 bar scoop of orange jam

Decoration: orange peel

Method: Pour all ingredients into the shaker, stir the jam until dissolved, then add ice cubes to shake well. Filtering the wine into a chilled cocktail glass and scraping some fine orange peel on the surface of the liquid as a garnish can also add aroma.

Breakfast Martini isn't actually Martini, but more like a White Lady made of a glass of jam, in Salvador's terms. But in London in the 90s, any cocktail in a triangular cup had to bear the name Martini to be popular. In this way, among the many Martini made with juice, Breakfast Martini and the jam it uses quickly stood out. It has led to a worldwide trend of mixology with jam and inspired the use of jellies, preserves, purées and other ingredients in cocktails.
