The high-profile Sanxingdui has a new action. On March 29, the construction project of the new Sanxingdui Museum was officially started in Guanghan City, Deyang, Sichuan Province. The construction project of the new museum has a total investment of 1.433 billion yuan and is expected to be officially unveiled in October 2023. After completion, the new museum will be the largest single building of the heritage museum in the southwest region, in addition to displaying the cultural relics of the Sanxingdui Museum No. 1 and No. 2 sacrifice pits, it will also display the cultural relics of a new round of major archaeological discoveries.

Wisdom showcases a new round of major archaeological discoveries
The new museum is located in the Sanxingdui Museum Park, covering an area of 66 acres, with a construction area of 55,000 square meters, which is 5 times the construction area of the existing venue and 3 times the exhibition area.
What is the difference between the new building and the old one? According to Zhu Yarong, director of the Planning and Construction Department of the Sanxingdui Ruins Management Committee, compared with the existing pavilions, the reception and exhibition capacity of the new pavilions will be improved with high quality, and the collections will be concentrated in the new pavilions, and their expression methods will be richer, and the connotation of ancient Shu civilization will be more fully displayed. From the perspective of functionality, the new museum not only enhances the exhibition function, but also optimizes the reception and service functions of tourists, in addition, including the storage of collections, the sale of cultural and creative products for tourists, and public education will be realized in the new space.
After the completion and use of the new museum, the existing general museum will be dedicated to the study hall for teenagers, and the bronze hall will be built into a high-tech digital experience hall.

The design is inspired by sanxingdui artifacts

"After the completion of the Sanxingdui Museum, the shape of the new museum will be combined with the landform, historical sites and cultural relics and plastic arts." On March 29, Sanxingdui Museum announced the design renderings of the new museum, and Liu Yi, chief architect of the Southwest Design and Research Institute of China Architecture, introduced the design concept of the new museum to reporters. It is said that "stacking three stars, the eye of ancient Shu" is the core design concept of the new museum, which is inspired by the lines extracted from the cultural relics of Sanxingdui and used as a control curve for the shape and internal space of the three piles. The roof of the new museum adopts a sloped earth covering form, which echoes with the existing comprehensive museum shape left and right, forming three overlying piles arranged along the central axis, implying "stacking three stars", so that the shape concept of the building is homologous to inherit the site name of "Three Star Pile". It is worth mentioning that in terms of architectural performance, the solid and thick façade reveals the "eye of ancient Shu" and looks in the direction of the ruins area, symbolizing the window of the Sanxingdui culture displayed to the outside world, and is a metaphor for the ancient Shu civilization to gaze at the world through ancient and modern times.
