The construction of the Sanxingdui National Cultural Relics Protection and Utilization Demonstration Zone will be launched this year
In September 2020, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage announced the first list of national cultural relics protection and utilization demonstration areas, and the Sanxingdui National Cultural Relics Protection and Utilization Demonstration Zone entered it as the only demonstration area for the protection and utilization of large sites in the country.
In July 2021, the State Administration of Cultural Heritage officially approved the "Implementation Plan for the Construction of the Demonstration Zone for the Protection and Utilization of National Cultural Relics in Guanghan, Sichuan Guanghan Sanxingdui" compiled by the Guanghan Municipal People's Government. Sanxingdui National Cultural Relics Protection and Utilization Demonstration Zone has a planned total area of about 160 square kilometers, including a core area of 24 square kilometers and a radiation area of 136 square kilometers. The scope includes "three towns on both sides of the river", that is, the XiangJiang River and its two banks around the Sanxingdui site, as well as the whole area of Sanxingdui Town, Gaoping Town and Nanfeng Town. It mainly carries out archaeological survey and exploration and excavation, completes key demonstration projects for cultural relics protection with high quality, improves the display system of museums and national archaeological site parks, and cultivates a new format of integration of culture, tourism, business and agriculture.
It is reported that the construction of the Sanxingdui National Cultural Relics Protection and Utilization Demonstration Zone will be fully launched this year and will be assessed and identified by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage in 2023.

The excavation of the sacrificial pit is coming to an end
The archaeological site park is beginning to take shape
Since the launch of a new round of archaeological excavations at the Sanxingdui site, the results of its excavations have continued to attract social attention. Up to now, the six newly discovered "sacrifice pits" have unearthed more than 11,000 cultural relics.
According to Tang Fei, president of the Provincial Institute of Cultural Relics and Archaeology, the excavation of the Sanxingdui site is still focused on the sacrifice area and the newly discovered sacrifice pit, and the excavation of the sacrifice pit is about to enter the final stage. In fiscal 2022, in addition to continuing excavations of the sacrificial area and newly discovered sacrificial pits, archaeological excavations of the Moon Bay site will be carried out with the goal of further understanding the settlement structure of the Sanxingdui city site.
Regarding the construction of sanxingdui heritage park, Du Shangwu, deputy secretary of the Guanghan municipal party committee and mayor, said that as early as 2010, the Sanxingdui site was announced by the State Administration of Cultural Heritage as the first batch of national archaeological site parks. At present, the ancient city wall, sacrifice pit and other protection display areas have been built, through the display tour line, the spatial pattern of Sanxingdui ancient city is clearly presented, the site display and museum exhibition complement each other, and the archaeological site park has begun to take shape.

The application for the Sanxingdui site is being stepped up
As one of the other important contents of the creation of the demonstration area, the application for the Sanxingdui site is also stepping up. It is understood that in accordance with UNESCO's "Operational Guidelines for the Implementation of the World Heritage Convention" and the relevant declaration requirements of the State Administration of Cultural Heritage, the "Sanxingdui Site Protection Plan" and the "Sichuan Sanxingdui Site Protection Regulations" have been promulgated and implemented, and the protection management institutions and protection management mechanisms have been established and improved. The General Office of the State Council recently issued the "14th Five-Year Plan for the Protection of Cultural Relics and Scientific and Technological Innovation", and the application for the Sanxingdui site was officially listed as a key cultivation project for the national "14th Five-Year Plan" application. Next, in accordance with the world cultural heritage standards, the important relics of the Sanxingdui site will be protected, and the new Sanxingdui Museum and the Sanxingdui National Archaeological Site Park will be built through high-level planning, comprehensively improving the level of cultural relics display and utilization and museum management, and promoting the Sanxingdui Museum as a whole to reach the international first-class level.
