On March 29, the new museum of Sichuan Guanghan Sanxingdui Museum officially started construction. Since October 10, 2020, the architectural concept design of the Sanxingdui Ancient Shu Cultural Site Museum and Its Ancillary Facilities Project (Sanxingdui Museum New Museum and Visitor Center Project) that has been solicited worldwide has also surfaced.
The winning proposal in the public solicitation was originally designed by the team of China Construction Southwest Institute, and the joint body Isozaki Shin + Hu Qian Studio served as the project consultant. According to the data, the overall planned land area of the new museum is located in the northeast corner of the core protection area of the site, covering a total area of about 75,000 square meters, including a new museum and a total area of about 54,400 square meters for the visitor center. After completion, the new museum will form the Sanxingdui Museum Group together with the existing No. 1 and No. 2 Museums to create a world-class thematic museum with diversified and modern exhibition forms.
The three undulating and connected heap-like ruins left behind by the walls of the ancient Shu Kingdom and the crescent-shaped Moon Bay terrace in the north form a "three-star with the moon" landscape, from which "Sanxingdui" got its name. The design of the new museum continues to develop the classic spiral curved façade of the old museum. The roof adopts the form of sloped earth covering, and the building is concealed into the site, which echoes with the slope shape of the opposite Hall No. 1, and the building forms three overburdened piles arranged along the central axis, which means "stacking three stars". The plane control lines of the three stacks intersect at one point, and the plane angle presents a rigorous geometric logic, generating a unique shape rhythm.
Of the three piles, two on the east side are exhibition spaces, and one on the west side is the logistics depot area. The design finds a clever balance between "obvious" and "hidden", "new" and "old", "point" and "combination", and responds to the complex architectural status and site context of the park with an appropriate posture.
Walking west through the visitor center and entering the Space-Time Spiral Sequence Hall, visitors can see the spiral staircase surrounding a bronze statue of a large erector that has been magnified by 6 times in size. Tourists can visit all the exhibition halls continuously through the guidance of "a moving line", or they can choose to visit specific theme exhibition halls, and can enter the "Ancient City ancient country" exhibition hall, the "Ancient Shu Civilization Exchange" exhibition hall, and the "Archaeological Excavation Process" exhibition hall in turn; after visiting the first floor, go up the spiral staircase, you can come to the second floor "amphitheater" to watch the sitcom, and then visit the "Art, Myth and Sacrifice" exhibition hall, the "Cultural Relics Heavy Equipment" exhibition hall, the "New Archaeological Achievements" exhibition hall; after visiting the second floor, through the spiral staircase, you can go directly to the first basement floor. There is a children's playground and an academic lecture hall.
The structural design of the new museum adopts steel truss cover to ensure that the exhibition hall is a flexible column-free, separable and closed open space, and the equipment pipeline is arranged in the empty stomach truss layer to achieve a high degree of integration of equipment, structure and exhibition space.
The construction of the new Sanxingdui Museum will reshape the spatial pattern and tour experience of the park and create a new landmark of Sanxingdui culture.
