Sony: PS5 consoles will support VRR variable refresh rates "within a few months."

First, today's update will bring some of the features that fans around the world have requested, such as hosting or attending open and closed parties on PS5 and PS4 consoles. On the PS5, Sony brings UI improvements to the [Game Base] and [Trophy] pagination cards, as well as assistance tool features such as headphone mono.

IT House understands that Variable Update Rate (VRR) will be available on PS5 in the coming months. On HDMI 2.1-mounted TV and computer screens, VRR will dynamically synchronize the screen refresh rate to greatly reduce or eliminate visual distortion (such as screen tearing issues) in conjunction with the graphics output of the PS5 host. With fast scene rendering times, sharper image quality, and reduced input latency, many PS5 game titles will have a smoother play experience.

Sony said that previously launched PS5 games will be optimized for VRR, and future games may support VRR when they are launched. Users can also choose to apply VRR to PS5 games that do not support this feature, but may be less effective and can be manually selected to turn on.
