MSI M480 PLAY SSD testing, Yinxin launched PS5 SSD cooling module

MSI M480 PLAY SSD:

The MSI Black M480 PLAY SSD, which was shown at CES 2022 at the beginning of the year, is about to be available. As an upgrade to the M480 HS, it not only has a heatsink tailored to the Play Station 5, but also updates the faster flash memory particles.

Judging from the dismantling of techpowerup, the M480 PLAY replaces the common thermal pad with a thermal conductive adhesive.

Thermal conductive adhesive is difficult to restore after disassembly, but it also has its own advantages over the thickness of fixed thermal conductive pads: the height of the master control, DRAM cache and NAND flash memory chip on the SSD is not uniform, and the thermal conductive adhesive can fully fill the gaps and enhance the heat dissipation effect.

The MSI Black M480 PLAY still uses the swarm PS5018-E18 master, but the flash memory has been upgraded from the M480 HS's 96-layer stacked Micron B27B to the 176-layer stacked Micron B47R, and provides a larger 4TB capacity model.

Micron's B47R flash interface speed was increased from 1200MT/s on the B27B to 1600MT/s, boosting the M480 PLAY to achieve 7400MB/s higher sequential read performance than the M480 HS. The B47R replaces the original FG floating gate architecture with the RG architecture, and the write performance is also greatly improved.

Judging from techpowerup's test results, the 2TB version of the M480 PLUS has more than 3500MB/s of SLC cache write performance, which is doubled compared to the M480 HS 2TB of 1730MB/s.

Yinxin launched PS5 cooling module:

Yinxin just announced the launch of a PlyaStation 5 M.2 NVMe SSD heatsink called TP06.

Compared with the heatsink, the PCEVA evaluation room editor prefers to call it a heat dissipation module, because it also replaces the SSD cover on the PS5. At 67.5 grams, it is secured to the position of the original SSD cover plate by means of an attached screw.

The TP06 cleverly utilizes the PS5's original SSD cover fixing mechanism, and the all-in-one design allows it to deliver a larger volume than the standard PS5 heatsink.

At the same time, the tall heat dissipation fins can use the PS5's air duct to bring better heat dissipation to the PCIe 4.0 SSD.
