Tesla ranks first in the sales volume of new energy vehicle companies in the world, and BYD ranks second.
According to the EV Vision Chart, in 2021, Tesla sold 936,200 new energy passenger cars, BYD sold 593,900 units, SAIC-GM-Wuling 456,100 units, Volkswagen 319,700 units, BMW 276,000 units, Mercedes-Benz 228,100 units, and SAIC Motor 227,000 units. Among them, Tesla Model 3 sold 500,000 vehicles, and Wuling Hongguang MINIEV sold 424,100 vehicles.
From the perspective of the market share of car companies, Tesla ranked first with 14.4%, and BYD's share accounted for 9.1%, ranking second. SAIC-GM-Wuling's share is 7%, Volkswagen's share is 4.9%, BMW's share is 4.2%, Mercedes-Benz's is 3.5%, and SAIC's is also 3.5%.
On January 11, the Federation of Passenger Vehicles issued a document saying that the wholesale sales of new energy passenger vehicles in China reached 505,000 units in December, an increase of 138.9% year-on-year and 17.8% month-on-month. From January to December, the wholesale number of new energy passenger vehicles was 3.312 million units, an increase of 181.0% year-on-year. Retail sales of new energy passenger vehicles reached 475,000 units in December, up 128.8% y/y and 25.4% month-on-month. From January to December, the retail sales of new energy passenger cars were 2.989 million units, an increase of 169.1% year-on-year.
In addition, Deloitte analysis data shows that global new energy vehicle sales exceeded 6 million units in 2021, and will maintain an annual growth rate of 37% for the next four years, and by 2025, global new energy vehicle sales will reach 21.42 million units, compared with 6.08 million units in 2021, an increase of 352.3%.
The China Association of Automobile Manufacturers predicts that China's total automobile sales in 2022 will be 27.5 million units, an increase of 5.4% year-on-year. Among them, passenger car sales were 23 million units, an increase of 8% year-on-year; commercial vehicle sales were 4.5 million units, down 6% year-on-year; and new energy vehicle sales were 5 million units, which is expected to increase by 47% year-on-year.
