Toshiba in place: 20TB hard drives have sprung up

Seagate and Western Digital's 20TB hard drives are already on the market, so what is the progress of Toshiba, the third largest HDD manufacturer?

After investigation, Toshiba MG10 series hard drives have passed the SATA interoperability certification test, in addition to data center, enterprise-class high capacity, as well as 20TB for client desktops and NAS.

The largest capacity currently available for Toshiba is the MG09 series, 9 disc helium charge, flux-controlled microwave-assisted magnetic recording technology (FC-MAMR).

In fact, prior to this, Toshiba had confirmed in its earnings report that it would launch 10-disc 20TB FC-MAMR hard drives in fiscal year 2021 before the end of March 31, 2021. In other words, the official release time should be in the next few weeks.

For consumers, the increase of 20TB products means that the range of choices is expanded, and differences in price, parameters, and performance also help to select the most suitable products for themselves.

It is also worth mentioning that Toshiba has also planned MAS-MAMR (Microwave Assisted Switching - Microwave Assisted Magnetic Recording), HAMR (Thermal Auxiliary Magnetic Recording) and other technologies, planning to release 30TB of mechanical hard disks in 2023, 35TB capacity versions in 2025, and more than 40TB of capacity in 2026.
