Seagate announced a product roadmap, or will launch a 50TB mechanical hard disk in the future

Recently, Seagate released its new Cool Eagle surveillance-grade hard drive product with a capacity of 20TB. In addition to announcing this new 20TB hard disk drive product, they also announced some of the subsequent large-capacity hard disk product roadmaps, revealing the subsequent research and development plans for larger-capacity hard disks.

In the product roadmap, Seagate said that it will launch 30+TB capacity products in 2023, and it is more likely to launch 50+TB capacity products in 2026, and the speed of capacity improvement is still quite fast.

To achieve such a huge capacity, relying on the original PMR and SMR technology is obviously insufficient, and Seagate has also prepared HAMR thermomagnetic auxiliary magnetic recording technology for this purpose, with the support of this "HDD industry recognized sub-era recording technology", the hard disk storage density can reach 5-10 times the current PMR technology, making 50TB such a huge capacity possible.

In addition, Seagate has also developed MACH·2 technology, with 2 sets of drive arms and 16 heads of the configuration to achieve a doubling speed, can increase the disk continuous transfer speed to 480MB/s, compared to the common 7200 rpm disk 235MB /s transfer rate, the limit rate has doubled, compared to the high-end 15000 rpm products, can also have a 60% rate lead, the overall rate performance is still good, to a certain extent, also surpassed some SATA3 interface SSD.

With the support of such high-speed and ultra-large capacity hard disks, the monitoring industry may continue to exert efforts in terms of image quality and other aspects in the future, and continue to empower our big data industry.
