After the marriage, Li Xiuwen silently supported Ye Ting, acted as his inner helper, and bore him nine children. In Ye Ting's most difficult stage, Li Xiuwen sold his property to support her husband.
It can be said that after the age of eighteen, Li Xiuwen gave everything she had to Ye Ting. However, Li Xiuwen's final ending was not satisfactory.
A school flower from a famous family
In 1907, Li Xiuwen was born. Li Xiuwen's father, Li Shaocun, did business in Macau in his early years and accumulated rich family property, and the Li family also became a relatively famous gentry and wealthy family.
The ancestral home of the Li family is in Dongguan, Guangdong Province.
Success and fame, homecoming. Therefore, when the situation in Guangdong was relatively stable, Li Shaocun moved back to Guangdong with his family and settled down. Li Xiuwen, also followed his parents, returned to Guangdong.
In 1921, in order to commemorate the democratic revolutionary Mr. Zhu Zhixin, Sun Yat-sen founded Zhixin Middle School in Guangzhou.
At that time, as a private school, almost all the students who were eligible to attend zhixin Middle School were students from wealthy families and well-born backgrounds. Among them, including Li Xiuwen.
Li Xiuwen, who has a beautiful face and elegant temperament, is known as the school flower of the girls' middle school and is famous far and wide.
It was also during this stage of middle school that Li Xiuwen and Ye Ting became acquainted.
School flowers with officers
In 1924, at the age of seventeen, Li Xiuwen was a female middle school student studying at Zhixin Middle School. Ye Ting, at the age of twenty-eight, served as a battalion commander in the second battalion of the Guard Regiment at Sun Yat-sen's Presidential Palace.
Two people who had never intersected before were tightly bound together after 1924.
Ye Ting and Li Xiuwen's acquaintance stemmed from one person: Li Dazhang.
Li Dazhang, who joined Sun Yat-sen's League in his early years, participated in revolutionary activities such as the Wuchang Uprising and the Yuan Movement, and was one of the earliest revolutionaries.
In 1921, Li Dazhang and Ye Ting were simultaneously recruited into the 1st Division of the Cantonese Army. Later, the two entered the guard regiment of the Guangzhou government. Li Dazhang and Ye Ting are brothers, comrades-in-arms, and confidants.
At the same time, Li Dazhang was born in Dongguan, Guangdong, and Li Xiuwen's father, Li Shaocun, was of the same ethnic group, and the two had very close contacts.
Under the guidance of Li Dazhang, Ye Ting and Li Xiuwen began to contact.
One is a beautiful school flower, and the other is a young officer with great spirits. Aesthetic love naturally arises between the two.
Li Xiuwen's parents are still very satisfied with Ye Ting.
Although, Ye Ting was 11 years older than Li Xiuwen; although, Ye Ting had once had a marriage.
In 1924, with the support of Sun Yat-sen's policy of "uniting with Russia, the United Communist Party, and supporting peasants and workers", Ye Ting was sent to the Soviet Union to study as a young cadre.
Before going to the Soviet Union, Ye Ting proposed to Li Xiuwen.
In 1925, Ye Ting, who had returned from the Soviet Union, was appointed head of the Independent Regiment of the National Revolutionary Army.
It was also in this year that Ye Ting and Li Xiuwen held a grand wedding in Zhaoqing, Guangdong. Li Xiuwen officially married Ye Ting as his wife.
We share weal and woe
During the Northern Expedition, Ye Ting led his troops to go out on expeditions, fought bravely and well, and became a well-known "famous general of the Northern Expedition". As a wife, Li Xiuwen silently supported Ye Ting behind his back.
In 1927, after the defeat of the Great Revolution, Ye Ting, Together with Zhou Enlai, Ye Jianying and others, organized and led the Nanchang Uprising and the Guangzhou Uprising.
After the failure of the Guangzhou uprising, for various reasons, Ye Ting broke away from the party and went into exile overseas. Li Xiuwen has always accompanied Ye Ting.
From 1927 to 1937, the life of the Ye Ting family was very difficult. After five years in Europe, they returned to Macau after many hardships.
In 1937, the All-Out War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression broke out. After an agreement between the Party organization and the Kuomintang authorities, it was decided to reorganize the Red Army and local troops in the eight southern provinces into the New Fourth Army. Based on the consideration of various aspects, Ye Ting, who had been out of the party for ten years, was appointed as the commander of the New Fourth Army.
The preparatory work for the establishment of the New Fourth Army is very difficult.
In order to support her husband, Li Xiuwen took out her parents' pension and sold her property. With the money he had painstakingly raised, Li Xiuwen bought 3,600 pistols in Hong Kong, Guangdong and other places, and personally escorted these guns to the garrison of the New Fourth Army in southern Anhui.
Life in southern Anhui is full of hardships. But Li Xiuwen has always been fearless of hardships and dangers and has always accompanied Ye Ting's side. In the autumn of 1940, due to the adjustment of strategic deployment, the New Fourth Army was preparing for the related problems of going north.
Based on the consideration of various factors, Li Xiuwen and her husband returned to Guangzhou separately. However, what Li Xiuwen did not expect was that it was so difficult for the husband and wife to meet again.
Life and death follow
In January 1941, after the Anhui Incident, Ye Ting was imprisoned by Chiang Kai-shek. After learning the news, Li Xiuwen ran around.
In the second half of 1942, with the help of Li Jishen, Li Xiuwen was allowed to take his daughter Ye Yangmei to the place where Ye Ting was imprisoned and live with him.
After Ye Ting was transferred to Guilin in Guangxi, Li Xiuwen's mother, with her family, also came to Guilin. During this time, the life of Ye Ting's family was very difficult.
Agents sent by the Kuomintang monitored the Ye family's every move at all times and confiscated the silver tickets sent by others. In order to alleviate the poverty-stricken life dilemma, Li Xiuwen lost the clothes and jewelry he brought from his mother's house, and used the money to buy a batch of goats, piglets, chickens, and vegetable seeds.
For ye Ting, Li Xiuwen changed from a wealthy Miss Qianjin to a peasant woman who raised pigs and grew vegetables. Although life is very hard, Li Xiuwen has always accompanied Ye Ting's side without complaint or regret.
During these years, Li Xiuwen gave birth to nine children for Ye Ting: seven sons and two daughters. Among them, the third son, shortly after birth, died prematurely.
In 1943, shortly after the birth of their youngest son, Ah Jiu, the Kuomintang authorities decided to transfer Ye Ting to Enshi, Hubei Province.
Obviously, it was impossible for a large family to follow Ye Ting to Enshi.
Eventually, Ye Ting took his three older sons to Enshi.
Li Xiuwen and the other children continued to live in Guilin. Later, Li Jishen once again reached out to Li Xiuwen to help the family move back to Guangzhou.
The party organization has been actively rescuing Ye Ting. Finally, in March 1946, Ye Ting, who had been imprisoned for five years, was released.
After receiving the news, Li Xiuwen in Guangzhou was excited, immediately packed his bags, and took his eldest daughter Ye Yangmei and his youngest son Ah Jiu to Chongqing to welcome Ye Ting home.
On March 9, 1946, Li Xiuwen and Ye Ting were reunited again.
At this time, whether it was Ye Ting or Li Xiuwen, their sideburns were dyed with white hair; the corners of their eyes were also carved with wrinkles.
However, when the two meet each other, their eyes are full of bitter, happy smiles.
They all believe that the suffering is over.
But what about the facts?
Live and die together
The day after his release from prison, Ye Ting submitted an application to Yan'an to join the party and began to plan his trip to Yan'an. On April 8, 1946, Ye Ting and his wife, with their eldest daughter Ye Yangmei and their youngest son Ah Jiu, together with Wang Ruofei and others, flew to Yan'an.
Mr. and Mrs. Ye Ting, with a good hope for the future, boarded the plane to Yan'an.
In Yan'an, a grand welcome ceremony had already been prepared for them, and Important leaders such as Chairman Mao and Commander-in-Chief Zhu De also came to the airport in Yan'an to greet Ye Ting and his wife.
However, the accident came so suddenly.
When the plane arrived in Shanxi, it accidentally collided with the mountain. After the plane exploded and caught fire, it fell off a cliff. All the people on board, all killed.
At this time, Ye Ting was only 50 years old.
Li Xiuwen is only 39 years old.
Li Xiuwen, with her life, has fulfilled the promise of "sharing weal and woe, living and dying together".
