Alaska Command will conduct biennial "Arctic Rim" exercises from Feb. 28 to March 17. The Arctic Rim aims to leverage best-in-class training locations across Alaska to provide participants with realistic and effective training. "Arctic operations and exercises, such as the Arctic Rim, have demonstrated the ability to defend our homeland and interests," said Lieutenant General Krum, regional commander of the North American Aerospace Defense Command alaska North American Aerospace Defense Command of the North American Aerospace Defense Command, "to stop day-to-day conflicts, to de-escalate situations in crises, if we need to fail in a conflict, we must be able to operate and prosper in the Arctic." About 1,000 U.S. military personnel will participate in multinational, multi-service exercises. The Arctic Rim is an exercise planned by the U.S. Northern Command (USNORTHCOM) to be held every two years, the first in 2018. For the past 50 years, Alaska has been conducting Arctic exercises under different names such as JACK FROST and BRIM FROST.
