Rolls-Royce Cars Reinvent the "Goddess of Celebration" for a Purely Electrified Future

"'Goddess of Celebration' is arguably one of the most famous and fascinating car symbols in the world. Her meaning is much more than just a logo, but also the embodiment of the Rolls-Royce brand. For the Rolls-Royce brand and its customers, it is a constant source of inspiration and a spiritual totem. Like the Rolls-Royce brand itself, the 'Goddess of Celebration' has always kept pace with the times and adhered to its original intention in the passage of time. The new 'Goddess of Celebration' will lead the peak of the Rolls-Royce brand aerodynamic performance with unprecedented smooth shape and elegant temperament, dazzlingly illuminating the rolls-royce brand's electric future. ”

— Toston Muller Utfords, CEO of Rolls-Royce Motors

"111 years ago, the 'Goddess of Celebration' became the official standard configuration of Rolls-Royce. Today, she has become the spiritual guide of the Rolls-Royce brand. Her styling is a perfect interpretation of the brand's ethos – the forward-leaning angle shows Rolls-Royce's relentless pursuit of perfection, and the flowing skirt in the wind echoes the excellent balance between performance and tranquility of Rolls-Royce's products. Standing on top of the new all-electric model 'Shining', the 'Goddess of Celebration' dances lower and more focused, aiming to redefine the unprecedented sense of speed and the excitement of the future. ”

— Anders Worming, Rolls-Royce Automotive Design Director

On February 6, 1911, Rolls-Royce officially registered the "Goddess of Celebration" as its intellectual property. In the 111 years, Rolls-Royce's iconic "Goddess of Celebration" statue continues to evolve, which will travel through the torrent of time and dance gracefully on top of the new pure electric vehicle "Shining".

The new design of the "Goddess of Celebration" dances lower, more dynamic, and is closer to the original version created by her creator, illustrator and sculptor Charles Sykes, in the early 20th century. As an integral part of the rolls-royce brand's new visual language, she vividly presents the rolls-royce "snapshot" visual design language.

The newly designed "Goddess of Celebration" sculpture is 82.73 mm high, compared to 100.01 mm in the previous version. The skirt, often mistaken for "wings", swings behind you in the wind. The tweaked sculpture is more aerodynamic, writing the concept into reality.

The most significant change in the new "Goddess of Celebration" sculpture is the standing posture. The pre-evolution "goddess of celebration" stands with her feet together, her legs straight, and her waist tilted. The rejuvenated "Goddess of Celebration" is also like the goddess of speed, facing the wind, with one leg leaning forward, her body hanging low, and her eyes are staring ahead. These adjustments combine practical functionality with design styling considerations to help achieve excellent aerodynamic performance of the new all-electric model, the Shining. The first Rolls-Royce Shining prototype had a drag coefficient of just 0.26, making it the most aerodynamically pleasing rolls-royce model ever. In the 2022 product detail test protocol, the drag coefficient is expected to be further refined.

The new design of "Goddess of Celebration" restores the essence of Charles Sykes' original work, not simply "redrawing". The rejuvenated shape of "Celebrating Goddess" was created by a rolls-Royce House computer modeler who is passionate about life painting and sculpture. The design team's deep experience in the digital field is extremely meaningful in shaping the elegant and realistic facial features and expression designs of the "Goddess of Celebration". The design team also consulted the Goodwood styling team for their opinions on the hairstyles, costumes, posture and expressions of the "Celebratory Goddess" statue. These valuable opinions add a purely modern touch and eye-catching elegance to her dynamics.

Each "Goddess of Celebration" is made using the "dewaxing casting process", which is one of the oldest casting processes. To this day, each statue is hand-polished and polished, and it is different from each other. This is also a long tradition of Rolls-Royce. Until 1939, Charles Sykes personally cast and polished each figurine. The high crystallization of the ingenious, precious and extraordinary humanistic elements is intriguing contrast with the precision and highly industrialized automotive products behind her.

Although in contemporary times, the "Goddess of Celebration" does not change frequently, in the history of 111 years, the "Goddess of Celebration" has undergone many evolutions, such as adjustments such as size, material, kneeling posture and so on. The new "Goddess of Celebration" statue created exclusively for the "Shining" will also appear on all future models. The current design will still be used in the Phantom, Ghost, Phantom, Obsidian, Cullinan and Black Badge series.

The artistic expression of the brand identity

At the same time, the Rolls-Royce "Muse" art project also announced the official opening of the "Celebration Goddess Challenge" and announced the list of judges. The inaugural Celebration Goddess Challenge invites talented, bold and innovative up-and-coming designers to take inspiration from Rolls-Royce cars and the existing "Celebrating Goddess" logo to transcend the present and redraw the future. The up-and-coming artists are looking forward to their eye-catching and inspiring conceptual masterpieces.

Held every two years, the expert jury carefully selected a material category for each event, and the emerging designers used it as a carrier to interpret the inspiration from the "goddess of celebration" with artistic talent. This year, the first "Celebration Goddess Challenge" designated the material carrier as textiles. The jury included Anders Worming, Rolls-Royce Automotive Design Director, Ann Yin, Director of Diao Men's Jewellery and Creative Director of AMBUSH, Tim Marlowe, Director and Director of the Design Museum in London, and Sumiya Wally, Founder and Head of Counterspace Studio In Johannesburg. Together, they will select three finalists to enjoy this extraordinary artistic baptism.
