How well did the Hebrews know greek?
The Kingdom of Israel was expelled by the Assyrians in the 700s BC. They lost their Hebrew identity. Two centuries later, the kingdom of Judah was expelled by the Neo-Babylonians. They must be allowed to keep one or two books of the Law. Jews/Jews began to speak Aramaic, the lingua franca of Assyria, Babylon, and the Persian Empire.
