The boy, from the central Israeli city of Kafa Saba, has been quarantined three or four times since the start of this school year. After testing positive for COVID-19 last week and confirming infection with the Omiljun strain, Helfgot continued to self-isolate. He is expected to be released from quarantine on Wednesday (February 2), the day of his 12th birthday.

Sharing his experience with The Times of Israel, Helfgot said he didn't feel as uncomfortable this time compared to the new coronavirus variant that had previously had "quite severe symptoms." He said, "I was fine, I felt healthy and didn't have many symptoms, but during the infection with the Alpha variant, I had a fever. I try to spend time in bed or play with my phone, but there's really not much to do. As his birthday approaches, Helfgot shares that he wants to "stay healthy and not be infected again."

According to a study published in the journal Nature last May, people infected with the new coronavirus may be re-infected within a year or two unless they take precautions, such as vaccinations and wearing masks. (Editor: HHJ)
