At 13:02 on May 22, 2021, 99-year-old academician Wu Mengchao passed away. Previously, his wife, Professor Wu Peiyu, had also passed away. The couple is a hepatobiliary specialist and an obstetrics and gynecologist.

On the morning of January 20, 2022, the couple, who had been together for 60 years, were buried together in the East Garden of Fushou Garden in Shanghai , the Wind Lotus Garden.

In 1941, he and she were classmates of the Affiliated Middle School of Tongji University in the suburbs of Kunming, and a hand-knitted sweater pulled into the distance between them; in 1943, they were both admitted to the medical school of the National Tongji University, only because she said that the study of medicine was good, the construction of the project was a contribution to the country, and the study of medicine was more contributing to mankind. With the support and companionship of his lover, Wu Mengchao devoted his life to the medical cause of the motherland - established the discipline system of liver surgery in the mainland, and at the age of 97, he still fought under the shadowless lamp, and the main knife treated more than 16,000 patients, and he won the first national highest science and technology award in the medical and health industry before his death.
