On Tuesday (Jan. 18), around 9:30 p.m., in Lorillard Place, near East 187th Street, in the Belmont area of The Browns, New York City, 27-year-old constable Kaseem Pennant was shot in the leg by a 16-year-old gun teen, a 16-year-old gunboy, according to the New York Post.

After treatment, Pennant left St. Barnabas Hospital on Wednesday morning (January 19).

It is understood that Pennant has been a police officer for three years.

New York City Police Chief Inspector James Essig said the teenager refused to obey orders as officers approached a group of people, members of the Reywey Crew gang, with one teenager with his hand in his pocket, and when officers let him put his hand out several times. A physical altercation ensued, and the teenager's gun went off fire, bullets that went through his own left groin area and then hit a police officer in the right leg.

New York City Police Commissioner Keechant Sewell said none of the officers fired.

Eich noted that the youngster was arrested in May 2020 for possessing a tourist firearm, when he was only 14 years old. Last month, he was indicted and given a suspended sentence, which expires in May of this year.

At present, the identity of the teenager has not been released, he is still being treated at St. Barnabas Hospital, and he will face charges.
