According to sources, on monday (15th), a 9-year-old Chinese police officer committed suicide in a car on Long Island, the fourth New York police officer to commit suicide this year.
The Chinese-American police officer, surnamed Tsoi, was found shot in the head at a pier on Masstic Beach on Long Island at 7:30 p.m. on Monday night after a family dispute with his wife.
It is understood that Police Officer Cai joined the Police Force on July 11, 2012, and transferred to the 20th Subway Branch of the New York City Police Department headquartered in Queens on July 25, 2018. The case is currently under further investigation.
As many as 10 police officers committed suicide in New York City in 2019, twice as many as in previous years, including Li Linhong, a 33-year-old Chinese-American police officer.
Reports have unnerved the department about the number of police suicide deaths, leading the City Police Department to adjust its measures to deal with internal suicide cases and suicide prevention, creating a new confidential suicide prevention program called Finest Care, which provides free treatment for New York-Presbyterian psychiatrists and psychologists, and encourages all officers to seek mental health counseling and help anonymously if they have suicidal thoughts.
