The story behind my photos on the spot | this year, I witnessed their cultivation and harvest in the mountains

I'm on the spot, recording moments, becoming history.

Starting in 2019, we have set up a "I am on the spot" column, which uses the precious interview experience of Xinhua reporters to "sink their hearts, stoop down, and integrate into their feelings" as the content, telling what they have seen, heard and thought at the scene of major news events.

In 2021, they practiced the "four forces", from the site of the First Congress of the Communist Party of China to the scene of the centenary celebration of the founding of the Party; from the frontline of the city's fight against the epidemic to the overseas epidemic center; from the farmland flooded by heavy rain to the city besieged by wind and snow; from the foot of the Tianshan Mountains where the cotton harvest was harvested, to the herdsmen's homes on the snowy plateau...

They freeze moments of news and record history.

From January 3, 2022, the "I am on the scene" column has successively broadcast the stories behind the masterpieces and photos of a number of Xinhua News Agency photojournalists in 2021. I hope that their works and stories can bring you hope and strength.

The story behind my photos on the spot | this year, I witnessed their cultivation and harvest in the mountains

Born in the mountains, grown up in the mountains, it is difficult to get out of the mountains, and you want to go back to the mountains? Whenever I put on my photography bag and walked into the mountains again and again, my family always asked questions incomprehensibly.

In 2021, whenever people in the mountains go outside the mountains on holidays, I run into the mountains. Wumeng Mountain, Moon Mountain, Wuling Mountain, Yao Mountain... This year, I recorded their hard work and sweat, hard work and harvest on the road of rural revitalization in the mountains.

2021 is the starting year for consolidating and expanding the effective connection between poverty alleviation and rural revitalization, how to consolidate the hard-won poverty alleviation results, this is a problem that poverty alleviation households should seriously consider, and it is also a historical process that media people must record. Therefore, I continued to choose the countryside as a base for my own research and pay attention to the stories of farmers in the mountains.

"New Farmers" Take Root in the Fields to Round "Rice Dreams"

Also after the 80s, Zhao Xiangrong is a farmer I have seen with a lot of ideas. Zhao Xiangrong was born in the countryside, drove a muck truck, worked as a chef, and spent many years in Jiangsu.

This spring, my branch colleague met Zhao Xiangrong during a chance interview in the countryside, and was impressed by his experience of returning to his hometown to develop high-quality rice cultivation and hand-painted barometers to observe the weather, so he gave me this story clue.

↑On August 24, 2021, in Leping Village, Bamang Township, Majiang County, Guizhou Province, Zhao Xiangrong inspected the grain situation in a rice field.

Since then, my interview with Zhao Xiangrong has continued. Over the years, thanks to the help of Nanjing Agricultural University and Guizhou Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Majiang County, Guizhou, every time the rice planting experts of Nanjing Agricultural University come to Majiang, they have to transfer to Guiyang Longdongbao Airport. Therefore, I asked the teachers and students who came to help me to also take me on a ride to Majiang to interview and shoot the story of Zhao Xiangrong using the advantages of zinc and selenium in his hometown to carry out high-quality rice cultivation.

From April to October 2021, I used half a year to squat interviews, follow up and shoot, from seedlings, sowing, and planting seedlings in early spring, to field irrigation, weeding, insect control, fertilization in summer, and then to production measurement, harvesting, and storage in autumn. After coming and going, I became good friends with the interviewee Zhao Xiangrong.

↑On October 8, 2021, Zhao Xiangrong and workers cooperated in driving a harvester to harvest rice.

When I saw the seedlings that were thriving and fell due to the windy weather, I was devastated in the field with Zhao Xiangrong and his wife; when the autumn harvest test field yielded more than 700 kilograms per acre, we couldn't help but drink a little wine that night to celebrate the fruits of this hard work.

"Little Dragon Girl" sweet cause brings rich folks

Yuan Xiaomei is also a southern girl who returned to her hometown to start a business, and she previously ran a beauty salon and clothing store in Fujian.

In childhood, honey was a luxury that locals could not afford to eat, so yuan Xiaomei always had a wish in her heart, that is, to let the villagers eat raw honey. So she resolutely chose to return to her hometown, taking advantage of the natural advantages of green mountains and green waters and wildflowers in her hometown to do soil bee breeding, driving the surrounding village villagers to develop bee farming in a total of more than 600 boxes, with an annual output value of nearly one million yuan, and her story was forwarded and praised by Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying on Twitter.

↑On April 28, 2021, Yuan Xiaomei inspected the growth of bees in the hive.

On the eve of May Fourth Youth Day in 2021, we drove for more than three hours to find Yuan Xiaomei's apiary in the deep mountains.

From inspecting the hive, cutting honey to squeezing honey, Yuan Xiaomei is very familiar with the road, clean and neat, and it is completely impossible to see that a young girl can be so proficient in beekeeping. But when inspecting the hive, there was a little accident, from head to toe has been "fully armed" she does not know when a small bee into the nostrils, she instinctively pinched her nose with her fingers to try to blow the bees out with the help of air currents, who knows a force to compress the bees, the little bees instinctively resisted, stung in her nasal cavity.

↑ On April 28, 2021, Yuan Xiaomei accidentally stung her nose by a bee while inspecting the hive, revealing a look of pain.

For a girl who loves beauty, this is undoubtedly a tragic experience. But Yuan Xiaomei told us that in order to raise bees, her hands and feet are often stung and swollen, like lotus roots, and this work of making fun in pain is her normal work.

↑On the evening of April 28, 2021, Yuan Xiaomei and her family inspected and reinforced the hive in heavy rain to prevent the hive from being blown over by wind and rain.

When many young people choose to turn their backs from their hometown and go out of the mountains to seek a better working environment and life stage, there are also many young people like Yuan Xiaomei who choose to return to their hometowns, take the mountains as their home, and brew a sweet life that belongs to the people in the mountains. I think they are the most scarce local talents and youth forces in the process of rural revitalization.

The women's volunteer fire brigade guards the century-old Dong village

In the early winter of Dongzhai, the night in the mountains is very long. We drove to the depths of the mountains in the southeast of Qiandong at night, just to record a night patrol of the women's fire brigade. As far as the headlights reached, a group of plainly dressed Dong women, banging gongs, shouting slogans, and wearing searchlights on their heads, walked into the depths of the night.

↑On November 8, 2021, female firefighters honked gongs and shouted at night in Dongzhai to remind villagers to use fire to be safe.

Countless nights have been like this, they have remembered the concerns of the villagers, hung on their lips, and spread fire safety to thousands of households. Most of the wooden houses in The Miao village of Guizhou are in Dongzhai, and once the fire is lost, the "fire will be burned to the camp" and the losses will be heavy.

They are wives, mothers, daughters, and an ordinary group of rural women. Because most of the men in the Dong village went out to work, they became the backbone of the village.

↑On November 9, 2021, female firefighters tested fire hydrants in Dongzhai and held a fire drill.

Who said that women are inferior to men, can get off the kitchen, can carry water guns. Practice for a thousand days, just to rush to the battlefield of fire at any time. With their weak arms, they provoked the girders guarding the ancient Dong village.

Today's Dong village is simple and elegant, the windows are bright and bright, and the village is rich and prosperous. Guarding Dongzhai from fire candles is not only the responsibility of professional fire departments, but also the unshirkable responsibility of every Dongzhai person.

In order to shoot this report, I only slept for 5 hours in two days and two nights.

The "slow train" becomes the get rich express

Running on the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau "Happiness Slow Train", which is a theme that spans yunnan and Guizhou provinces, I communicated with colleagues in the Yunnan branch in advance, got their support and help, and learned a lot of information.

Subsequently, I arrived in Zhaotong, Yunnan Province, a day early, to record the process of fruit farmers harvesting apples near Zhaotong South Railway Station.

↑On November 30, 2021, growers sold their own apples to passengers on train 5647.

There are more than 2,600 villagers in Xiaolongdong Village, Xiaolongdong Township, Zhaoyang District, Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province, and 90% of them grow apples, and apple cultivation has become the main economic income of local villagers. Carrying these apples out of the mountains, to the market, and selling at good prices is the 5648/5647 "slow train". Every autumn and winter, 5647 "slow trains" usher in a large number of Zhaotong fruit farmers and apples, who take the "slow trains" to Sell in Weining, Liupanshui, Anshun, Guiyang or further afield in Guizhou.

↑On November 30, 2021, fruit farmers in Zhaotong City, Yunnan Province, took the 5647 train to Caohai Station in Guizhou and got off.

On the first day, I followed the orchard to shoot the growers picking, transporting, grading, and packing the apples.

The next morning, I rushed to Zhaotong South Railway Station in Yunnan Province to shoot the shots of fruit farmers entering the station, waiting for the train, and getting on the train, and then following the car with the fruit farmers to sort out the apples on the train, selling them with the car, until the whole process of Guizhou Caohai Station and the fruit farmers getting off the train and entering the city to sell apples.

↑On December 1, 2021, train 5647 passed over the Lizigou Bridge in Weining County, Guizhou Province.

On the third day, in order to shoot the location of the "slow train" passing through the mountains and valleys of the Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, I determined the time when the train passed through the Lizigou Bridge with Lizigou Station in advance, drove the detour to climb to the other end of the bridge, selected the camera position, looked forward to the time, raised the drone into the air 10 minutes before the train passed the bridge, adjusted the shooting angle, aperture, composition, in the short 30 seconds that the train passed through the bridge, one hand pressed the camera shutter to take a photo, and the other hand remotely controlled the drone to shoot - All the preparation is for this short 30-second frame.

My news scene is in the mountains

"In 2021, I'm a farmer in the mountains." When I sent this sentence in the WeChat circle of friends, many friends joked that I was exaggerating.

In fact, as a photojournalist, being able to reach the news scene at the first time is a professional pursuit and duty mission.

And my news scene is in the mountains, in the village, in the fields, in the lives of ordinary people. Record their hard work and sweat, hard work and harvest, happiness and happiness... To keep a picture of the times and witness to history, that is the dream and distant place that I have pursued all my life.
