On January 17, the new generation of Volkswagen Lingdu finally unveiled its mystery and was finally named "Lingdu L". As the pioneering work of SAIC Volkswagen in 2022, the new Lingdu L adopts Volkswagen's latest MQB Evo platform to create, positioning A+ class sports coupes, and still has a clear model positioning distinction with FAW-Volkswagen Sagittarius.
In terms of shape design, Lingdu did not adopt Volkswagen's current family matryoshka design, but used a design language between Volkswagen's ID series electric vehicles and traditional fuel vehicles. The visual center of gravity of the front face is very low, and the headlight shape with the middle through-beam light bar and the illuminated car logo should have given people a very spiritual feeling. But combined with the middle net shape like a smiley face below, the temperament conveyed more seems to be silly... Whether such a design looks good or not is a matter of opinion, but it is undeniable that Lingdu L's recognition is indeed high enough.
From the side of the body, the new Lingdu L emphasizes the streamlined design, the roof line is very rounded, and the narrow window height also creates a coupe temperament.
In terms of size, since the new car has an "L" in its name, the size has naturally become larger. The new Lingdu L is nearly 4.8 meters long and has a wheelbase of 2731mm, like Sagittarius. In addition, the width of 1831mm is still one of the best in the same class, living up to the title of "luxury wide-body coupe" of its predecessor model.
Of course, for the new Lingdu L, the main product highlight is the frameless doors and hatchback tailgates that are more than the previous model. The new Lingdu L adopts a four-frameless door design that is rare at the same level, which instantly opens up the gap in temperament with ordinary grocery shopping cars such as Sagittarius and Civic, which will also become the biggest selling point of Lingdu L.
In addition, Lingdu L also provides the hatchback tailgate common to coupes, which can be said to be a small Volkswagen CC, or even an Audi A5! The hatchback tailgate not only looks more handsome, but also provides a larger trunk opening to enhance the practicality of the trunk.
In addition, the mid-to-high-end Lingdu L also adopts an 18-inch rim design, with a 225/45 R18 specification Dunlop SPORT MAXX 050 sporty tires, both the grip and the visual effect are guaranteed.
In the rear design, the through-type taillights and the red logo that emits light in the center are still the biggest highlights, and the English spelling of the model "LAMANDO L" is below the logo. However, it is a pity that Lingdu L also uses hidden exhaust like other Volkswagen MQB models, with only chrome trims below, which looks slightly weaker in the aura.

In terms of interior, Lingdu L adopts Volkswagen's latest dual screen interior style, which is similar to the Golf 8, but the LCD instrument screen is not embedded in the interior of the dashboard, but adopts a penetrating suspension design, and the design of the air conditioning outlet is also differentiated.
More importantly, the screen size of Lingdu L has been improved compared to the Golf, with a full LCD instrument of 10 inches and a central control screen of 12 inches; in contrast, the Golf is 10.25 inches + 10 inches. Because of this, the presence of the Lingdu L central control screen will be stronger. As for the car machine system, the machine of Lingdu L is the same as that of the Golf, but the official said that the performance of the car machine system has been optimized, and the fluency will be significantly improved.
In terms of detailed configuration, the Lingdu L high-end model is equipped with a sound system from Beats, which is more inclined to the taste of young people. The electronic gear handle also adopts the same small paddle shape as the Golf 8, and there is a wireless charging pad for the mobile phone in front.
In terms of other configurations, Lingdu L will be equipped with a set of L2 level driver assistance systems, and thanks to the improvement of electrification technology by the MQB Evo platform, the sensitivity and recognition accuracy of the vehicle driver assistance system are stronger than those of the MQB platform.
The AR-HUD head-up display system, which is highly acclaimed on the ID series electric vehicles, also appeared on the Lingdu L, which can not only display conventional driving information, multimedia and other content, but also combine the vehicle's navigation and driver assistance systems to display more vehicle status and route indication.
In terms of chassis structure, Lingdu L still uses the mainstream front McPherson, rear multi-link independent suspension. The powertrain is currently unchanged, still a 1.4T EA211 engine, with a maximum power of 150 horsepower and a maximum torque of 250 N·m, with a 7-speed DSG transmission. However, in the subsequent revamped models, Lingdu L will also use Volkswagen's new 1.5T EA211 Evo2 engine, which is expected to be improved in terms of power, fuel consumption and emissions.
For the new Lingdu L, it currently has almost no competitors in the market. Because the joint venture car of the same class does not have a frameless door + hatchback tailgate at the same time. Even among luxury brands, mercedes-Benz CLA and BMW 2 Series only have frameless doors and no hatchback tailgates. Because of this, if the main model of Lingdu L can maintain the pricing at a level of 140,000 or 50,000 similar to Sagitar and Civic, with the killer skill of frameless + hatchback, perhaps it is really worth looking forward to in terms of sales!
