"Hi Flip" spaceship Hiphi X

The feeling of using this pure electric SUV

As with its name "Hiphi X",

It's like a ship that can take you to "hi flip"

Dream spaceship.

Select the electronic analog sound effect as "SuperShip" and turn up the sound volume. As the throttle is stepped on and off, the British Treasure sound system uses 17 speakers around the cabin to play in real time the ethereal sound of starship acceleration and deceleration, which resembles the acceleration and deceleration of a starship in a science fiction movie. Unfortunately, the team that made this electronic sound effect really didn't know how to drive, because once the throttle was stabilized, the sound effect disappeared.

Shouldn't the sound of the propulsion system always run through the spacecraft's flight? So — at least to me — this intermittent electronic hi-tunes are mostly stereotypical, annoying sounds that are hard to use again after showing off or occasionally playing with them in front of guests.

However, small setup flaws like this don't represent the real feelings I've had driving the HiPhi X these days. I'd love to jump to conclusions first – as the name goes, "Hiphi X," this all-electric SUV resembles a fantasy spaceship that can take you on a "hi flip," an exciting product, but only if you don't treat it strictly as a car.

In terms of design, the first feeling of hiPhi X to me is a bit like the oversized Citroen DS5 of the Space Travel theme version – the dream and advanced design that the French once used to bring people with the DS5 is now magnified and upgraded to its own level on hiPhi X, so that it is not the same as all other types of cars you can see on the street.

The A-pillar line that began to be pulled up from above the front wheel arch was smoothly connected to the roof of the car, and after a slightly falling arc, it did not end until the rear of the car 3m away. The body under the plate, huge 22-inch wheels and equally huge and wide 255/45 R22-spec Michelin tires fill the entire wheel arch.

The HiPhi X is not a pure electric product with a minimalist design, on the contrary, it has a wealth of exterior details. Its front and rear corners are embedded with ISD smart interactive lights — a luminous matrix of countless LEDs that show how passers-by interact with a motion graphic like a pixel painting; the black decorative panels that wrap the front arch have sharp-angled edges on the rear — an element that flashes the name "Lamborghini Countach" in my mind; and the richly lined side body, the playful "fish fin" design that rises behind the C-pillar makes the window silhouette less monotonous.

Gaohe Motors said that HiPhi X has a "supercar SUV" shape. In fact, the HiPhi X, with a wheelbase of 3150mm and a length of 5.2m, has made it difficult to define exactly where it belongs. Say whatever you want — MPV, SUV, crossover station wagon — and it looks like it's all edged.

The groundbreaking design is even more confusing when the doors open – and the huge surprises that come with it. No matter where I park my car, the combination of a gull wing door with a hinged roof and a fully automatic rear door with a frameless double door at the rear will attract countless passers-by and make it even more uncertain what type of model the HiPhi X should belong to. What the picture can convey is only the freshness of this complex design in terms of morphological changes, and more importantly, the psychological changes it brings to passengers during actual use.

Imagine your guest walking toward HiPhi X with the rear doors automatically opening in such a unique way. The spacious rear space and beautifully designed seats are fully displayed in the sun or in the neon of the city at night.

The character who decides whether the project worth 100 million yuan at hand can be successfully advanced does not need to bend down and bow his head, so he sits in the car with extraordinary arrogance and weight, and when the door is closed up and down, you will go away with the ethereal starship acceleration sound effect... Guys, I've tried it for you, except that there is no project worth a hundred million, the rest of the process is definitely enough to show off, enough to provide people with ten thousand percent of psychological satisfaction. Moreover, the HiPhi X's "outstretched rear door" does dramatically improve accessibility.

With a usable passenger compartment ratio of up to 82% in the distinctive body, the 6-seater model also has a usable seating space in the third row, and the rear luggage compartment volume can be expanded from 233L to 616L.

After removing the glove box in front of the co-pilot, three huge screens were displayed in front of the passenger compartment – a 14.6-inch instrument screen behind the steering wheel, a 16.9-inch central touch screen, and a 19.9-inch co-pilot touch multimedia screen. Oh, and there's also a 9.2-inch streaming mirror on top of the front windshield. All three screens have a function-appropriate display.

A small regret is that even if the huge front windshield adopts a sunscreen and heat insulation coating process, the central touch screen will still appear annoying reflections from time to time at noon, and some software interfaces will occasionally stutter when called. The stunning multimedia touch screen in front of the co-pilot has delicate picture quality and bright colors, and there is a suitable viewing distance from the co-pilot passengers, but it actually has a small problem - it is difficult for you to reach it, and when you want to search or change programs, you must get up and bend over.

The near-disappearing physical buttons are another design feature of the passenger compartment. In the front row, almost all controls about in-vehicle devices are focused on the central touch screen. The rear control interface for functions such as air conditioning and seats is hidden on the door – a light touch panel, a whole row of touch signs will light up, and the surprise of the process is like "the magic moment of HiPhi X".

For the steering wheel with two touchpads, there is currently a problem of form outweighing practicality. At the moment, the touchpad functionality I've found is limited to controlling the sound and smart cruise system, but it's definitely easier to use if it's replaced by a physical button, and its benefit is that it can be extended through software upgrades. The paddles behind the steering wheel can be switched between two functions – selecting energy recovery intensity or driving mode – and perhaps they will be used for other purposes in the future through software upgrades.

As you may already see, the HiPhi X is deliberately bringing an advanced experience to the occupants of the car. I must admit that it did, and Gaohe has successfully built hiPhiX into a mobile cockpit with a sense of digital space. While it's not thoughtful enough in some settings, as I said, it's got me out of the "it's just an electric car" perception. From the moment it was unlocked through the camera and small screen hidden on the B-pillar, HiPhi X stirred people's curiosity with a series of digital experiences.
