The doors are only part of the HiPhi X, but they illustrate what it is. I think hiPhi X's product manager wants to create a technology-themed, cool enough to achieve the same price of luxury car social, home, business needs of large electric toys for this digital age, for those with strong personality and expressive desire for consumers.
It's still a bit difficult to do that. First of all, the configuration of HiPhi X should be rich enough to attract attention, and secondly, it is a car after all, and various functions should serve the driving and riding travel, so the ergonomic design should be good, and it should be easy to get started, which is not very easy to achieve. Can Gaohe engineers do this on the first car?

What is it like to be surrounded by a "screen"?
To make an impressive electric car, how can it not have a screen? If you want to give these years of electric vehicles to also make a "screen ratio" ranking, Gaohe HiPhi X will definitely be able to get the rank - three large size displays, "full of screens" ah! Even if the big screen is flooded today, the 19.9-inch entertainment display in front of the co-pilot still has a strong eye-catching ability. You say physical keys? Sorry, but what's that?
All three screens are glassy hard surfaces... Have you ever seen that kind of glass display with resistance induction in the certification hall? It feels a bit like that. However, it may be that the design is fixed earlier, and the pixel particles of the three screens are relatively "fruit grains", which is a little far from the look and feel of today's smart phones and displays.
The core hardware of the smart cockpit is the Snapdragon 820A chip that we are all familiar with, and it is accompanied by a 128G internal hard disk. One of the special things about HiPhi X is that in order to ensure the user experience, the 19.9-inch co-driver display exclusively enjoys a Snapdragon 820A and internal hard disk combination. It is equipped with software such as iQiyi, Himalaya and other content platforms, hardware such as Bluetooth, screen projection function is also independent of the central control screen.
The position of this large screen is actually not easy to operate, and there are several ways to operate the screen while sitting upright: either, through the "remote control" function on the central control screen; or through the Gaohe App to connect the co-driver screen, with the mobile phone as the remote control. Does this imply that the Co-driver screen of HiPhi X has at least two separate ways of connecting Devices, Bluetooth and WiFi, and may support game peripherals in the future?
Gaohe has tried to achieve "screen display" within the scope of the regulations, and the standard HUD (as for why it is not a fashionable AR-HUD, please look back) and the streaming rearview mirror are not absent. In the hiPhi 1 concept car era, Gaohe has prepared two side streaming media rearview mirrors, but it still needs to be allowed by regulations to really appear on the car.
The six-seat version of HiPhi X we experienced is not like the four-seat version with a second row of screens, so what about the rear air conditioner and seats? Turn your attention to the door trim – Touch Bar! It not only reduces the physical buttons, but also ensures that the function is easy to reach (naturally raise your hand to touch), but also reveals some sense of technology, which is very clever.
The car's screen undertakes visual and tactile interaction, and voice interaction requires the support of a microphone array. The HiPhi X is equipped with a four-microphone array for four-tone zone voice control.
Passengers can look up slightly to see hiphi X's in-car cameras, both in the first and second rows. It currently has in-car monitoring, image recording functions, Andhe also said that the camera can identify personal items and children left in the car, indicating that the system has specific objects and human body recognition capabilities. As OTA unfolds, the more raw car hardware is buried, the wider the functional boundaries of the vehicle. Hiphi X, a car with electronic toy attributes, will bury more hardware than the average new power product, thus creating more imagination space for potential customers.
How do I get started with a big toy?
The removal of the central control entity button requires a very high UI design of the in-vehicle system. How to arrange the complicated control functions in a large screen with simple, easy-to-use logic, and it is also easy to use during driving? Ui designers that do not conform to the usage inertia of the average user?
The design logic of HiPhi OS, like many new powers, is to use a map as the "home page", with a menu of common air conditioning systems, common vehicle controls, and additional functions at the bottom of the screen. The basic operations are as follows:
- Swipe left edge of the screen to the right to return to the map interface (occasionally need to tap the back button on the top left of the screen);
- Swipe right edge left to pull out shortcuts and scene menus;
- Top drop-down for message center;
- Tap the shortcut keys at the top of the screen to control items such as account, driving history, battery management, HiPhi Go voice assistant, and more.
Operating a large 16.9-inch screen, you have to dance with your hands. Engineers should consider this, so the spacing of different keys is relatively large, and try to put all the keys in a single page to help form muscle memory, but in the actual experience, the size of the key body, the icon font design is not conspicuous enough, when driving, you have to move your eyes farther, and there is no tactile feedback from the fingertips to the driver, which will be inconvenient.
It is generally believed that in the car machine system, the fewer functional levels, the better. We counted the functional levels of HiPhi X, and the common project levels such as air conditioning, vehicle control, and doors are only 2 layers; the deepest level of the vehicle setting is 5 layers. This is the level of the best Digitally Done Ashkenazi Luxury Car, but the latter's "Common Function Prediction" this "level 0 capability" HiPhi X has not yet. The entry settings interface is clearly organized and functionally unified, which is the usual style of new forces.
Small to page switching animation, large to 3D body modeling rendering tasks are all completed by Qualcomm Snapdragon 820A chip, the actual operation experience and the market equipped with 820A car machine is relatively close, the overall look and feel is relatively smooth, there is no serious stuttering or crash problems, but switching pages to complete the real-time rendering task is not very smooth. In addition, Hiphi OS does not have the same page switching animation as a smartphone, and the look and feel of switching between functions is not very natural.
"No physical buttons" is the basic operation of new cars in recent years, but there are not many cars that do not even have a few physical keys on the steering wheel. HiPhi X replaces the physical buttons of the steering wheel with two multi-functional trackpads, in addition to the general click, slide, there are still long presses, two fingers up and down and other operations. This design is designed for the era when assisted driving is widespread and the steering wheel is not used at all times, but at present, it is very difficult to accurately control the trackpad without icon prompts, and it is difficult to operate quickly.
It can be seen that Gaohe engineers have a certain degree of research on the integration of pure touch screen systems and driving scenarios. After simple adaptation, it is not difficult to get started in a static state. However, HiPhi OS's current icon/text design style, blind exercise support capabilities, steering wheel touch operation form, reduced function levels, etc. There are still areas for improvement, and users may have a sense of separation that "feels that the system is easy to use when parking, and the system is not easy to use when driving".
Beyond, but not exactly beyond what was expected
Gaohe's voice control system is called HiPhiGo, the whole car has four independent sound zones, and with the sound zone group lock function, different sound zones can also be locked in the system to achieve sound zone fusion. The system supports custom wake words and personalized titles. Depending on the scenario, voice interaction supports 5 or 30 seconds of continuous conversation.
It's a voice interaction system that both exceeds and falls short of my expectations.
Beyond imagination, because it has a large range of control - originally the Hiphi X was a very deeply electronic car, and all the electronic control functions were integrated into the system. The voice system can control the opening and closing of electric doors and windows with 5% accuracy, and the depth of control has exceeded most of its kind. In addition, such as the seat position, the third row is convenient to enter and exit, are all a sentence of work, of course, this is also related to the high HiPhi X to "electrify" and "network" the function.
So why did it not meet expectations? Because HiPhiGo unexpectedly does not support consecutive multi-instructions. For example, if I say "Adjust the front air conditioner to 23 degrees and automatically turn on the rear seat heating", HiPhiGo will only randomly execute one of them, not to mention more or functionally unrelated instructions. It also does not have "visible can be said", can not completely replace the click operation, and the so-called "car industry iOS" head player is still far behind.
This version of HiPhiGo is linked to the rich electronic configuration on the car, and the effect is not bad, but the experience still needs to be improved. Specifically, enhanced anti-interference, fuzzy semantics, and dialect support can also be imported. Presumably, users are squatting on the OTA upgrade of Gaohe.
The mission of big toys: to have fun
The playability of HiPhi X is worth talking about. The "Geek World" in the shortcut menu provides some intelligent scenes (such as "launch co-pilot") by linking the lights inside and outside the vehicle and the seven doors; the headlights can also project custom images or videos... Not to mention traditional car companies, it is difficult to find these in the new forces. These features, which may be considered fancy, appear on hiPhi X, but there is no sense of violation, which may be the role of positioning.
For example, peripheral support, HiPhi X now supports connecting to wearable devices to obtain the driver's physical state and linkage driver assistance systems, as well as gamepads. Will peripherals such as VR glasses be supported in the future? At least at present, there are already car companies trying the metaverse elements in the car, which is not practical, and it is necessary for hiPhi X users to have this ability.
Lighting is also an important interactive element of HiPhi X. In the headlight and taillight positions, the HiPhi X is equipped with a dedicated interactive light cluster with a white, orange or red LED array inside the light cluster as required by regulations. Usually, the interactive light group is integrated into the external lighting system, responsible for the daytime running lights, turn signals or brake lights, but only need to select the interactive lights in the system...
...... The interactive light array displays different images. Images are animated and can be constantly updated. Now it can display common functions such as "let pedestrians go first" or "than heart" and "like".
The HiPhi X headlights are the fabled "digital headlights" with 2.6 megapixels – ready to be used as projectors. In addition to the conventional lighting function, it also takes into account the interaction with the car and the driver. For example, at a point on the screen, the headlights will automatically lay out a blanket of light, telling you whether the narrow road in front of you can be opened.
Or, you can type a few words into the system and let the headlights project on the wall, which is also very interesting. In fact, the headlights can also project driver assistance information, "pave" a dynamic zebra crossing for passing pedestrians, or turn into a monochrome projector to show you a black-and-white movie.
Electric big toy, with new era luxury
A peer teacher recently put forward a point of view, which I very much agree with: "Paying for core functions is the essence of technological luxury in the new era." When a car or a brand makes its own longboard long enough, even if there are still shortcomings, it does not matter in a short period of time. I think that's why Gaohe wanted to make the first car a "big electric toy."
The HiPhi X goes beyond the same level of functional configuration, and the multi-bit over-electronic, all serve its "large electric toy" attributes. Heap function is one thing, whether it can guide users and potential consumers to be happy to use these functions, play HiPhi X, it depends on how various functions through the intelligent cockpit interface, efficient interaction with users, easy to use.
Now it seems that Gaohe's engineers have done a good job, of course, its details and functions are still far from the head of the new power products, which need to be followed up step by step through OTA upgrades.
HiPhi OS 2.0, which will be launched at the end of April, will initially solve the problem of "level 0 menu" to reduce the level of functions, adjust the UI to adapt to the driving scene, and shorten the user path.
