Determined to join the army and defend the country
Zhang Wannian was born in 1928 in Huang County, Shandong Province. Under the influence of the Nanchang Uprising in 1927, a revolutionary upsurge was set off in China, and Zhang Wannian was affected by the revolution since he could remember.
Zhang Wannian's family was relatively poor, so when he was ten years old, he began to help the family do some work within his ability, and he also liked to do some carpentry work. Zhang Wannian is particularly intelligent and has a special talent for some architectural and structural things.
Affected by Japan's war of aggression against China, the people are not happy about their livelihood, and people cannot solve even the most basic problem of food and clothing. When Zhang Wannian was 16 years old, he deeply felt that only resistance could save the country, so he rushed to the Liberated Areas to sign up for the army.
Because of his relatively young age, the registered person advised him to come back in two years, but Zhang Wannian said very firmly that defending the family and defending the country is the duty of every Chinese, and it is also the duty of every good boy. The registrar looked at Zhang Wannian's determined eyes and saw the future of the country's prosperity from this child, so he became a small Red Army.
Zhang Wannian was mainly a logistics officer during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression. It was not until the end of the War of Resistance in 1945 that he fought on the front line for the first time. Bullets passed close by, and the more intense the gunfire, the more calm Zhang Wannian became.
When the charge horn sounded, the troops launched a charge against the Japanese army, and the two armies directly launched a white-knife battle.
Zhang Wannian had never experienced such a scene, but the bloody scene in front of him did not make him flinch, he grabbed the hand of the steel knife and clenched it more tightly, shouting that since I was a soldier, I would not be afraid of death, and after saying that, I plunged into the Japanese position.
Tower Hill Guard Battle
After the victory of the War of Resistance Against Japan, Zhang Wannian became a commander and fighter in the Jiaodong Liberated Area because of his excellent personal ability and rich combat experience. In 1948, Zhang Wannian followed the troops to participate in the famous Defense of Tashan in history.
In this campaign, in order to liberate the Liaoshen Theater, our army deployed the main troops, with the goal of liberating the Jinzhou area. Because the Jinzhou area is an important pass in the Liaoshen Theater and connects the north and south depths, it can be said that as long as Jinzhou is conquered, the Kuomintang troops in the entire Liaoshen Theater will not be able to take care of each other from beginning to end.
However, Chiang Kai-shek was certain not to abandon Jinzhou, so he sent a telegram to the surrounding areas to rescue them, and the Tashan area was a pass that the support of the Kuomintang troops in the southern Part of the Liaoshen region had to pass through. Zhang Wannian's troops were ordered to hold Tashan to the death and not to let go of a Kuomintang force until the Jinzhou area was victorious.
After arriving at the position, the troops quickly deployed the strategic layout, and the units quickly arrived at the combat area and quietly waited for the arrival of the Kuomintang troops. After a while, the vanguard of the Kuomintang's first unit arrived, and Zhang Wannian crouched quietly in the trenches waiting for the order of the squad leader.
When the Kuomintang troops entered the encirclement, a trumpet sounded, and thousands of grenades of our army were thrown down. After the sound of the explosion, the Kuomintang troops were caught off guard, the charge horn sounded, and our army launched a charge, so that the first wave of the attack was blocked.
However, these Kuomintang troops advanced like crazy, and did not give the People's Liberation Army in the Tashan area a chance to breathe, so under the wave of offensives, our army stubbornly held out for five days and nights. The Jinzhou region entered the final decisive battle, and Chiang Kai-shek began to make the final game.
The Nationalists mobilized dozens of aircraft and a dozen warships to bomb the Tashan area, trying to tear open a gap for reinforcements to go to the Jinzhou area.
Under such frenzied bombardment, our army was directly reduced by one-third, but just when the Kuomintang army wanted to continue to advance, it was met with more fierce firepower.
In this way, a battle for the defense of Tower Hill was fought for six days and nights. The Jinzhou area was lost, and there was no need for nationalist reinforcements to support them anymore, and the defense of Tashan ended with the victory of our army.
Self-defense counterattack against Vietnam
After the founding of New China, Zhang Wannian was appointed regimental commander because of his outstanding military achievements, and his combat command ability and ability to lead troops in training were appreciated by the Central Military Commission.
Soon after, the Vietnam War broke out, the United States brazenly invaded South Asia, the Military Commission ordered Zhang Wannian to go to Vietnam, serve as a military adviser to the Vietnamese government, and let him as an observer to learn the tactics of the US military.
Zhang Wannian conscientiously performed his duties in Vietnam, because he knew that although New China was founded, it did not mean that there was no war. Because the United States and the Soviet Union launched the Cold War in the world pattern, many countries were involved. Zhang Wannian returned to China after studying in the Vietnamese battlefield. But Vietnam, believing itself to have defeated the United States, gradually became complacent, and after receiving strong support from the Soviet Union, it went from victim to intruder.
Vietnam began a war of aggression against Cambodia and occupied Cambodia in just over a month. In turn, we have strengthened our troops in our border areas and increased sentry prevention and control, with the intention of plotting against us.
