Global PC shipments hit a new high in 9 years in 2021 Lenovo Group continues to lead the way

On January 13, the well-known market research agency IDC released the 2021 Q4 and annual PC market research report. According to the report, global PC (desktop, laptop and workstation) shipments reached 92.65 million units in the fourth quarter, an increase of 1.0% year-on-year. Total PC shipments for the full year of 2021 reached 348.8 million units, up 14.8% year-on-year and the highest level since 2012.

Among them, Lenovo Group contributed 21.7 million units of shipments in the fourth quarter, leading the global manufacturers with a market share of 23.4%, while winning the 2021 global PC championship again with an annual shipment of 81.93 million units and a market share of 23.5%.

In addition, Canalys also released a report at the same time that in 2021, the global PC shipment volume was about 341 million units, an increase of nearly 15% year-on-year, and Lenovo maintained the first place with 82.14 million units of shipments and a market share of 24.1%, which also confirmed Lenovo's absolute dominant position in the global PC market in the new era of digital and intelligent transformation.

Jitesh Ubrani, research manager for mobile and consumer devices at IDC, said that 2021 is indeed a strong return for PCs. Consumer demand for PCs and global commercial demand in emerging markets remained strong in the fourth quarter, although supply remained an important factor. While consumer and education demand has declined slightly in some developed markets, IDC believes the entire PC market has restarted at much higher levels than it did before the pandemic.

Entering the post-epidemic era, the importance of supply chain management to the production and operation of enterprises is more prominent. With 30+ manufacturing bases around the world, Lenovo's global supply chain has always been the leader in the industry with its unique hybrid manufacturing capabilities (its own factory combined with OEM). Strong and flexible supply chain management capabilities have also become a magic weapon for Lenovo Group to ensure the stable shipment of PCs and other equipment and cope with the current supply chain crisis.

Both IDC and Canalys are optimistic about the future, arguing that 2021 will be a year of strong new demand and extremely challenging supply chains, and that the PC market will remain strong in 2022 driven by digital transformation. Ishan Dutt, senior analyst at Canalys, is optimistic about the future of hybrid office development, "As PC manufacturers face an increasingly complex situation, consumer consumption patterns are changing. We will see the industry put more emphasis on high-end PCs, monitors, accessories and other technology products, work everywhere, and maintain 'super' productivity. ”
