introduction
In 1942, the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression had lasted for several years, the people's livelihood was poor, and domestic weapons and ammunition and many civilian materials were dependent on foreign supplies. At that time, the coastal areas of China had been blocked by the Japanese army, and the only supply route was the Burma Road. In order to force China to surrender as soon as possible, the Japanese invaded Burma in an attempt to cut off China's supply routes to the north. To this end, the Nationalist government organized 100,000 Chinese expeditionary forces to go to Burma to resist Japan. In the Burmese battlefield, due to the constant contradictions in the chain of command, coupled with the fact that the strategic core of the British was in India, it did not contribute to the work. The Chinese Expeditionary Force was quickly defeated and retreated home, and the Japanese army also invaded Yunnan, China, along the Burma Highway, and the War of Resistance in Western Yunnan began.

Tengchong lost
In March 1942, the burma highway was still waving flags, the people were bidding farewell, and 100,000 Chinese expeditionary forces marched majestically to Burma. However, just 2 months later, the road was crowded with defeated stragglers and fleeing people, and the road was lined with abandoned cars and tanks.
The terrain of the Yunnan Burma Highway is dangerous, easy to defend and difficult to attack, and the defenders along the line have heard that the Japanese army will retreat without a fight, and give up the land to the enemy.
On May 3, the Japanese army captured the town of Hata and the city of Mangshi, and reached Longling County the next day. The news reached Tengchong,
Long Shengwu, the son of Long Yun, the "King of Yunnan" stationed here, and the administrative supervisor of Tenglong Border District, urgently telegraphed his father to request to be transferred to another place, and then fled to the provincial capital with a mule and hundreds of pieces of opium.
Qiu Tianpei, the governor of Tengchong County, saw that LongShengwu had withdrawn, held a meeting to discuss countermeasures, and decided to withdraw the organs. The local gentry said bluntly
"The county magistrate has the responsibility to defend the territory, and if he has not seen the enemy, how can he retreat?"
It was also agreed to send troops to destroy traffic and defend itself. Unexpectedly, in the middle of the night, the governor of Qiu County fled outside the city with his family and guards, and the rest of the staff of the organs also fled one after another, and only a small number of guards in the city maintained order.
On May 9, Liu Bolong, commander of the 28th Division of the 66th Army, retreated into Tengchong City, and the gentry asked him to stay in Tengchong to defend himself against the enemy. But Liu Bolong said that there were no soldiers in his hands, and he would first go to the level to contain the troops, and then hurriedly withdrew. At this time, news came from the front that the Japanese army had reached Menglian Street, forty miles away from Tengchong. The people of the city fled.
On May 10, 292 Japanese troops occupied Tengchong without firing a single shot. There are still more than 3,000 rice transported from Myanmar in Tengchong City

Baoshan bombing
Baoshan was called Yongchang Province in ancient times, with a population of about 100,000, and has been an important border town throughout the dynasties.
In 1938, after the construction of the Burma Highway, it became a material transit center, and the exchange of people made Baoshan the largest commercial center in western Yunnan.
Because the Nationalist government blocked the news, ordinary people in Yunnan still lived as usual and felt that danger was nearby.
On May 4, students gathered in Baoshan Park to celebrate "5.4", and many citizens in the city came to watch. On the same day, it was a polder day, and many villagers went to the city to catch the market.
At about 11:00 a.m., the sound of a large number of planes came. People on the street have rumored that US aircraft have entered Baoshan, not only have no defenses, but even wave and cheer at the air force.
After circling around, the plane dropped bombs on the south of the city, and the bombing was loud and deafening, the houses fell over, and the streets were wailing. Not long after, the second batch of Japanese fighters flew in, dropping bombs in the southwest direction of the city while strafing the crowd with machine guns. According to the recollection of a county government worker at that time
"Yinghe river blood water, with peach blossom residue red seepage."

Appalling.
Houses that were blown up
According to the investigation afterwards, the bombing damaged more than 1,000 houses that day, causing more than 10,000 deaths and injuries. In the following days, the Japanese army bombed one after another, most of the houses in the city were burned down, and the casualties could not be counted, which was an unprecedented catastrophe in Baoshan.
According to the Baoshan County Chronicle, there was a house in the city that "... The two main halls, both for Kong Sheng, are intimidated by righteousness, and the main hall is majestic and unharmed, which is for Yi Qiye. "Hundreds of people took refuge here, and not a single casualty was lost. The local people said that it was the apparition of the kong saints, and they all came to worship.
In the following decades, this Confucius Temple was very popular, but it was destroyed in the 1960s.
According to prefectural government officials, when the Japanese military planes flew in, the forward intelligence station had already received information and informed the prefectural government. The county government usually neglects its duties, ignores government affairs, pays little attention to intelligence, and is in a meeting on the same day, so it ignores the alarm. It ended up being a massacre.

epilogue
Japanese military planes took off from Thailand and traveled thousands of kilometers to Baoshan, with hundreds of intelligence stations, and as long as one of them announced the news to the people, it would not lead to the Baoshan massacre. However, under the leadership of the National Government, some local military and political personnel ignored the people and took the lead in absconding; some neglected their duties and harmed Cangsheng. The Baoshan massacre not only reflected the inhumanity of the Japanese aggressors, but also highlighted the corruption of the grass-roots organizations of the National Government. It is not surprising that such an organization has been defeated one after another on the battlefield, and it is doomed to lose the support of the people.
