General Dai Anlan, a famous general of the War of Resistance

On November 25, 1904, General Dai Anlan was born in Wuwei County, Anhui Province.
In 1924, feeling the hardships of the times and the danger of the nation, General Dai Anlan was determined to "save the giant lan from the fall and swear to die to revitalize China", so he changed his name to An Lan and called the seagull.
As a famous general of the Nationalist army in the third phase of the Whampoa Military Academy, General Dai Anlan made great achievements in the anti-Japanese battlefield, defeating the main force of the Japanese Ninth Division in the Bloody Battle of Gubeikou and the Battle of Wuhan, repelling the Japanese attack on the Aishan Position at the Battle of Xuzhou, and killing Major General Masao Nakamura at the Battle of Kunlun Pass, and the general's prestige was all over the world, but what really made General Dai Anlan famous for eternity was the expedition to Burma to fight against the Japanese Kou and promote the prestige of Huaxia in the outer regions!
I. The Japanese Army attacked the South Pacific, and the Chinese Expeditionary Force went abroad to resist the Kou!
On December 7, 1941, the Japanese army attacked the US army Pearl Harbor, and after the outbreak of the Pacific War, Japanese militarism burned the war to the South Pacific, following the occupation of the Philippines, Malaysia, Singapore and Indonesia, and then attacked Burma, Thailand and India, directly threatening the only international passage in the Chinese rear area, the Yunnan Burma Highway.
In order to save the situation in the Asian battlefield, the Allied China Theater was established, and U.S. Army Lieutenant General Stilwell assisted in the formation of the Chinese Expeditionary Force, advancing into Burma, and joining the Anglo-Burmese army to resist Japan.
In 1942, the Chinese Expeditionary Force entered Burma from western Yunnan, and General Dai Anlan of the 200th Division of the Fifth Army led the expedition. At that time, the 200th Division, as the first mechanized unit in the National Revolutionary Army, consisted of two tank regiments, two motorized infantry regiments and automobile regiments, engineer regiments, artillery regiments, and search and armored regiments, and the strength of the troops was first-class in the nationalist army.

In February 1942, the 200th Division of the Chinese Expeditionary Force fought against the Japanese 55th Division in Donggua, where the Japanese had absolute air superiority and bombarded the positions of the 200th Division in turn. General Dai Anlan made a will in public: "Ma Ge's body is wrapped in a corpse, drunk on the battlefield, and it is the right destination for soldiers." If a division commander dies in battle, he will be replaced by a deputy division commander, and if a deputy division commander dies in battle, the chief of staff will take his place." In the defense of Donggua, General Dai Anlan led the 200th Division to face 4 times the Japanese army, fought alone for 12 days, annihilated more than 5,000 enemy troops, and successfully covered the safe retreat of the Allied forces.
The campaign was hailed as "the longest defensive action of all the Burmese defenses and won for the division and its commanders."

Third, the Chinese and British allies were completely defeated, and the Second OO Division crossed the Savage Mountain.
In April 1942, the situation on the Burmese battlefield was overwhelming. The Anglo-Burmese army lost the city one after another, and the Chinese and British allies were completely defeated. The British commander Wei Fei ordered the general to retreat, under the cover of the Chinese army, to follow the Indian Yingfang, turning west to New Delhi; du Yuming and the new twenty-second division on the central line obstructed the rainy season on the way to the north, changed their route into India, and the 20th OO Division on the eastern front was attacked by the enemy on its back and fell into the heavy encirclement of the Japanese army, General Dai Anlan thought of the motherland, and led the Second OO Division across the Savage Mountain and embarked on a long road back to China.
Located in the far north of Myanmar, the Savage Mountain region is an unexplored primeval forest, densely forested with miasma, inhabited by people who were still in the primitive tribal era, who lived in the mountains, isolated from modern civilization, and were called Savages by the locals, "Savage Mountain."
Hence the name.
The Chinese Expeditionary Force crossed the Savage Mountains, and the biggest threats were three:
1. The harsh environment of the tropical rain forest has brought huge injuries and diseases to the troops.
It was summer, and the heat of Savage Mountain in the tropical rainforest climate was unbearable, and mosquitoes, poisonous snakes and miasma posed great danger to the two 00 divisions walking among them. The 200th Division crossed the Savage Mountains during the rainy season in May, and the active mosquitoes and locusts spread malaria, tetanus, sepsis and other diseases among the officers and men.
The 200th Division suffered an unprecedented disease at Savage Mountain, and most of them fell down as they walked and never got up again. Some expeditionary soldiers rested against a tree on the way to the march and were bitten to death by ants. The ground was muddy over the knees. What was even more frightening was hunger, the starving officers and soldiers could be seen along the way, and the poor corpses were swollen and deformed, crawling all over
Insects, coupled with blood-sucking ants, ants erosion, heavy rain washed away, within hours it turned into a white skeleton.
2. Lack of supplies and medicines, lack of food and drink for the troops.
Due to the heavy siege of the Japanese army, the 200th Division completely lost its supplies, the officers and men could only eat wild vegetables and wild fruits, drink raw water, and with the bite of ants, resulting in diseases, on both sides of the road, every thirty or fifty meters, there was a corpse that fell on the side of the road.
In the end, many officers and soldiers died of hunger and accidentally ate poisonous wild vegetables.
According to Li Minghua, a schoolgirl who personally crossed the Savage Mountain, he recalled: "I found a hut with the door half open, and it was full of people. I couldn't bear to disturb them, walked with light steps, my body was too tired, and soon I fell asleep.... It was already bright, and I wondered why the people who were asleep did not move. Looking closely again, they are already out of breath, and their faces and hands are puffy."
3. The Japanese army encircled and killed along the way.
The Second O0 Division in the Battle of Donggua left a deep impression on the Japanese army, and the commander of the Japanese army, Lieutenant General Tian Xiangsaburo, exclaimed: "In the Battle of Donggua, the enemy's resistance was both tenacious, and it was good at night fighting and sniping, which caused our army to suffer heavy losses."
In the face of the 200th Division of the Chinese Expeditionary Force marching on the Savage Mountain, the Japanese army shouted fiercely on the radio broadcast: "To lay the foundation for peace in East Asia, we must eliminate the Fifth Army, especially the 200th Division!"
Every time the 200th Division crossed a blockade line, it had to engage in a bloody battle with the enemy, and the 200th Division crossed the mountains and bridges all the way through the mountains, met the river, and successively crossed the Nanpan River, ruilijiang and other dangerous rivers and rivers, but when crossing the Finely Packed Yimogu Road, it encountered the Japanese Fifty-sixth Division.

The 600th Regiment of the 200th Division took the lead in catching fire with two companies of the enemy's 56th Division, and at the end of the battle, only two battalions of the 200th Division were left, and the regimental commander and deputy commander were killed, and when the battle was about to end, the officers and men of the 200th Division found that the division commander was missing, so they quickly returned to the battlefield to search, and finally found General Dai Anlan in the grass beside the road, at this time Dai Anlan was shot twice in the chest and abdomen, and the blood flow was not only very serious.
The 200th Division continued its journey through the tropical jungles of the rainy season in northern Burma, with the soldiers carrying the division commander on stretchers and braving the continuous downpour. Due to the lack of medicines and the damp and hot weather, General Dai Anlan's wounds were suppurative and ulcerated, and the fever continued to recede, and sometimes fell into a coma.
However, when general Dai Anlan, who was occasionally sober, heard that the Japanese army had invaded the Longling Fall in Yunnan Province and threatened the strategically important baoshan, the general's desire to return to China to kill the enemy was even more urgent, and he ordered the troops."
Hurry forward, return to the motherland, don't care about my injuries."
When the troops reached the village of Maobang near the Chinese border, Dai Anlan pointed to the map with difficulty."

But fate is always so cruel, on May 26, 1942, at 5 p.m., Dai Anlan, who had been unconscious for several days, suddenly woke up, and a round of sunlight shone on the general's face, and the general seemed to be full of vitality, like a battlefield, and the general murmured on his deathbed."

The 200th Division followed Dai Anlan's will and continued to advance toward the motherland. The engineer battalion rushed to make the coffin and collect the body of the general, but because of the hot weather, the general's body could not be preserved, so it had to be cremated on the spot together with the coffin, and the ashes were loaded into wooden boxes and continued to escort the advance.
On June 2, 1942, the 200th Division of the Chinese Expeditionary Force finally crossed into Chinese territory in Nankan. When he went abroad, the 200th Division, which had more than 9,000 men, only had 4,000 men left, of whom 1,800 were killed or wounded in battle, and most of the rest died in the harsh environment of Savage Mountain.
On April 1, 1943, a national tribute to General Dai Anlan was held in Jeonju, Guangxi, and the leaders of both the Kuomintang and the Communist Party wrote poems. Zhou Enlai inscribed an elegy: "The hero of Huangpu, the hero of the nation." ”
The United States awarded General Dai Anlan a medal of merit, and General Dai Anlan became the first Chinese soldier to receive the American Medal in the anti-fascist struggle of World War II.
Today, the tomb of General Dai Anlan is placed in Xiaozhao Mountain, Wuhu City, Anhui Province, on the southern slope of the mountainside, the semi-circular cemetery is built on the mountain, surrounded by pines and cypresses, and the left stele is inscribed with the elegy elegy of that year; the right stele is the general's biography; the middle stele is Wang Kunlun's inscription "Tomb of the Martyr Dai Anlan".
The nation survives and dies in battle, and the general's reputation has been passed down through the ages!
