The traditional techniques of cross-country skiing include alternating skiing, double pole push-up sliding, figure-eight stepping without the sliding stage, downhill and turning techniques, no two-foot or one-foot ice pedaling action is allowed, the snowboard must be placed in a pressed snow trough, the two skis are kept parallel to the direction of the slide, the use of the back and forth swing of the legs and the snowball fight to advance, the athlete strides forward and moves similarly to walking, but the snowball is used to generate thrust when skiing, and each stride will slide a certain distance.

A total of 99 athletes competed in the men's 15 km (traditional technique) of cross-country skiing at the Winter Olympics, and after the start of the race, one athlete departed every 30 seconds according to the order of departure arranged before the race, and the shortest time to complete the race won the gold medal. The race takes place at the National Cross-Country Ski Centre, with a length of 7.5 km, with each athlete gliding two laps for a total of 15 km on the track, with a total of 293 metres of climbing.

China sent Liu Rongsheng, Shang Jincai, Hades Badri Khan and Tsering Zhandui a total of four athletes to compete, and Liu Rongsheng, who finished in 49th place, was mainly steady after starting, not eager to accelerate, but properly controlled the rhythm, and when he slid to the 9.3 km timing point, Liu Rongsheng's performance was 26 minutes and 20 seconds 5. In the following 1 km, Liu Rongsheng's physical fitness declined significantly, he gritted his teeth and persevered, sliding to the 10.5 km timing point, the result was 30 minutes 00 seconds 1. When sliding to the 13.8 km timing point, Liu Rongsheng's immediate time was 38.52 seconds 3, and in the last 1.2 kilometers, Liu Rongsheng gradually picked up speed, closely followed the opponent in front, and finally completed the race with a time of 41 minutes and 51 seconds 7, ranking 47th.

The best of the four Chinese players was Shang Jincai, who finished the race with a time of 41 minutes and 29.6 seconds and finished 41st. Hades Badli Khan and Tsering Chandui were ranked 57th and 63rd respectively. Finland's Ivo Niskanen played well, winning the title in 37:54.8 and winning the gold medal in three consecutive Winter Olympics.

This is liu Rongsheng's third race at the Beijing Winter Olympics, he has played in the men's doubles chase (15 km traditional technology + 15 km free technology) and the men's individual sprint (free technology) competition, and ranked 38th in the men's double chase, creating the best record in the history of the Chinese athletes in the Winter Olympics event.

Cross-country skiing competitions have very high physical and technical requirements for the players, and three consecutive games is already a huge challenge for Liu Rongsheng, but his Winter Olympic journey is not over, he will represent the Chinese team in the men's 4×10 km relay race of cross-country skiing on February 13, and they will continue to challenge themselves and strive for greater breakthroughs.
