Wen Zhengming (1470-1559), also known as Wen Zhengming, was originally named Bi, Zhengming, and later Zhengzhong, Hengshan, Shuyun, and a native of Changzhou (present-day Suzhou, Jiangsu). His ancestral home is Hengshan, so he is called Hengshan Resident. His family was born in Wuben, starting with Wen Xian, and his father Wen Lin was once in Yongjiazhi County, Wenzhou. He studied classical poetry at an early age, loved calligraphy and painting, and was a scholar of calligraphy, Wu Kuan, a calligrapher, And Shen Zhou, a painter. When he was young, he enjoyed the name of talent, and together with Zhu Yunming, Tang Yin, and Xu Zhenqing, he was called "the four talents of Wu Zhong". However, the road to the imperial examination was very bumpy, from the age of 26 in 1495 to the age of 53 in Jiajing (1522), and fell behind ten times, until the age of 54, he was recommended to enter the capital as a gongsheng and waited for the Zhao Hanlin Temple.
At the age of 57, he returned to his hometown and immersed himself in poetry and painting. He is well versed in the art of painting, is good at fine and rough methods, has excellent eyesight and pen control ability, and can write very fluently in his 80s. In painting, he co-created the "Wu School" with Shen Zhou, and together with Shen Zhou, Tang Yin, and Qiu Ying, he was called the "Four Houses of Wumen". In calligraphy, together with Zhu Yunming and Wang Pet, he is known as the "Three Houses of Wuzhong".
Li Yingzhen, the first master of Wenzheng Ming calligraphy, studied the famous deeds of his predecessor extensively, and had his own achievements in seal, li, kai, xing, and grass. He is especially good at writing books and small kai, gentle and beautiful, rigorous and vivid. Although it does not have a majestic momentum, it has the style of Jin and Tang dynasty calligraphy. The small strokes are gentle and the rhythm is gentle, which is in harmony with his painting style, and is known as the "first of the Ming Dynasty".
Wang Shizhen commented in the "Yiyuan Yan": "The Zhao (Wen Zhengming) is named After Xiao Kai, the one who is stained with it belongs to the ear, and the sole seal is not lightly subordinate, but it is also self-contained. The four bodies of the "Thousand Texts" written by the book, the Kaifa is absolutely exquisite, there is the "Huang Ting", "Testament" penmanship, the line is smooth, can be called the jade version of the "Holy Religion", li yi miao "Zen" Samadhi, the seal book Jin Jin Yang Ice Gate Wind, and the Kai has a small law, but bao also. ”
Ming Metabolism praised Wen Zhengming Xiaokai in Hang's "Five Miscellaneous Tricks - Volume VII": "There is no real calligraphy in ancient times, that is, zhong and Wang's "Recommended Season Straight Table" and "Le Yi Theory" all carry lines. The calligraphy works of Xiao Kai in this period from 80 to 90 years old represent the highest realm and the greatest artistic achievement of Wen Zhengming Xiao Kai calligraphy.
The basic characteristics of Wen Zhengming's calligraphy are: starting from the pen and showing the edge, there is a tendency of Ling Li Junjian; The pen is lightly closed, and the slight press is pressed back to form an open momentum. The knot body is mainly square and slightly transverse. Throughout his life, Wen Zhengming learned from the ancients, worshipped the calligraphy of the Jin and Tang Dynasties and Zhao Mengfu, and worshiped them as gods, which obviously shows that Wen Zhengming's calligraphy orientation is the elite of the calligraphy art of the past.
