Shen Zhou's calligraphy began in the family tradition, the first time to learn Zhao Mengfu, from about the age of forty, extensive study of the family, and the Song Family is the most diligent; in his later years, he devoted himself to learning Huang Tingjian. Like to use the wolf to swing the book, the lines are sharp and sharp, the structure is ups and downs, the middle palace is tightened and the four-dimensional opening is open, the so-called "long skimming and big twist", the vigor is strange.
Shen Zhou (1427-1509) was an outstanding painter of the Ming Dynasty. The character Qi Nan, the number Ishida, also known as Shiraishi Weng, Yu Tian Sheng, Youju Bamboo House Master and so on. A native of Changzhou (present-day Suzhou, Jiangsu). He has a strong temperament, is erudite and talented, is good at literature, also works in poetry books, and is good at painting landscapes, flowers, birds and animals, insects and fish, all of which are very wonderful. Often grassy embellishment, that is, triumphant. He was also often inscribed with poems on paintings, and at that time people called him "Mr. Erjie".
Shen Zhou painted Huang Dajie and Wu Zhen, and became a brushwork of his own. Yi Gong ink pen flower bird, and his student Wen Zhengming and called "Wu Pai" two big people. Together with Wen Zhengming, Tang Yin, and Qiu Ying, they were also called "Ming Four Families". Every time he paints, he drops his brush and does not hesitate. He can imitate the ancients from many aspects, and add his own creation, and he can participate in the two-meter pen fun, make good use of thick pens, round and strong, thick and condensed, and enter and leave the famous Song and Yuan masters.
Shen Zhou's representative works are now mostly in the Grand Museum.
The Palace Museum has exquisite works, the important ones are the "Imitation of Dong Jushan Water Map" axis, "Cangzhou Fun Map" volume, "Pawn Yi Tu", "Ink Vegetable Map", "Lying Tour Map" and so on. The Nanjing Museum also has several paintings of Shen Zhou's masterpieces, including "Dongzhuang Tu" and "Peony" scrolls, which were painted in 1506, when Shen Zhou was 81 years old.
The Liaoning Museum has two masterpieces by Shen Zhou, one is the volume of "Bonsai Appreciation Map", which shows a tree stone hut, and three people drinking and admiring chrysanthemums in the pavilion, with a relaxed attitude, a loose layout, and pleasant scenery. The other is the volume "Yanjiang Stacked Mountains", composed in the second year of Zhengde (1507), the use of pen and ink, as desired, full of paper smoke, is indeed Shen Zhou's masterpiece in his 82-year-old years.
In addition, the National Palace Museum in Taipei also has a scroll of Shen Zhou's famous "Lushan Gaotu".
Shen Zhou painted many small paintings in his early years, and only after the age of 40 did he paint large-scale paintings, and his middle-aged painting methods were rigorous, he used his pen to be calm, and in his later years, his pen and ink were bold and powerful. Shen Zhou's paintings are comprehensive in skill, innovative in ancient times, and self-contained.
Shen Zhou's paintings made two major contributions to traditional landscape painting:
First, the integration of the south into the north, carrying forward the tradition of literati painting. For example, Shen Zhou's thick brush landscape melts into the strength and hardness of the Zhejiang school with the pen, and the hills and ravines add to the bone of the Song people, integrating the vastness of the Southern Song Dynasty with the magnificent and clear of the Northern Song Dynasty, and the emotions expressed by it also change from silence and coldness to grand and peaceful.
Second, the poetry, calligraphy and painting are further combined. Shen Zhou's calligraphy huang tingjian, the style of calligraphy "遒劲 Qikun", and his landscape painting Cang Jin Hou blended and coordinated. He also applied the calligraphy method of carrying the wrist and the pen to painting.
Shen Zhou, who was also a famous poet, was "sharp and frustrated, rich and old" in his old age. He combined this poetic style with the painting style, so that the paintings he made were more poetic.
