Among the many gardens in Suzhou, the coupling garden is unique and interesting.

The original name of the coupling garden was Lu Jin, the prefect of Baoning during the reign of Qing Shunzhi, and the name of the garden was taken from Tao Yuanming's "Return to Xi Ci" in the meaning of "garden day involvement to become fun". The garden was built in the early Qing Dynasty, destroyed by soldiers during the Xianfeng years, more than 200 years, tongzhi thirteen years (1874) overseas Chinese living in Wuzhong to recuperate from illness, Su Song Tai DaoTai Shen Bingcheng bought the abandoned garden, after expansion renamed "Coupling Garden".

Shen Bingcheng's wife, Yan Yonghua, is a talented woman of a generation. She was very intelligent, and her brother Ji Sheng once described her as a "scholar of heavenly poetry". Yan Yonghua called himself "Non-Shusheng", in the old days there was a saying of "non-Qijinshi", "栉" that is, combing his hair, which means that he does not have a bun and inserts a jinshi, referring to a woman with literary talent. Yan Yonghua considers herself a "scholar", which shows her interest and ambition in dancing and ink.

The name "Coupling Garden" is really unique.

"Coupling" has two meanings, one is "two people ploughing as coupling", which means two people ploughing the land together, and the other is "even", which means a pair, into pairs. At the same time, the coupling garden is one garden and two houses, Shen Bingcheng and Yan Yonghua expanded one garden on the basis of the garden, and the two gardens became one, so there is a garden in each of these things, which coincides with the beauty of "coupling".

The coupling garden has many links that embody the meaning of the word "coupling". As soon as you enter the coupling garden and pass through the entrance hall, you can see the brick carved wall door of the courtyard, opposite the brick carved wall door are three hard hilltop bungalows, which were originally the car hall of the coupling garden. This painting is from Yan Yonghua's hand, which can be said to be the most affectionate and perfect interpretation of the hostess's "love nest" with her husband Jun and Cain.

Good "coupling" is natural, and the coupling is deep. A "couple" character, the most poetic and book pottery, leisure and adaptability, showing the meaning of the couple with the hidden, the couple singing and the music of harmony.

The mention of "pillow wave" naturally reminds people of the words "pillow stone gargle" and "pillow flow" in the "New Language of the World". There's a very Zen and speculative story.

It is said that Sun Chu (Zi Zi Jing) of the Jin Dynasty planned to live in seclusion when he was young, so he told his friend Wang Ji (Zi Wuzi) that he wanted to live a secluded life of "pillow stone gargle", but mistakenly said "I want pillow flow gargle stone". Wang Ji did not know how to rinse his mouth with stones and how to pillow the flowing water. After Sun Chu made a mistake, he explained that he washed his ears with running water, grinded his teeth with stone, justified himself, and was quite Zen. Since then, these two words have been passed down, metaphorically self-love and grinding hearts.

Later generations also summarized the deep meaning and realm of these two words. "Pillow stone gargling" has two meanings, one is the material level, there is a need, the beginning is "pillow stone and relieve difficulties, gargling to quench thirst"; the second is the spiritual level, there is a yearning, the beginning is "pillow stone and look at the clouds, gargling to play in the water". And the "gargling stone pillow flow" is a kind of soul level, in order to be relieved, "wash its ears because it is dirty, and sharpen its teeth because it sees circles."

The coupling garden has a lot of water, the garden faces the river on three sides, and the garden is also suitable for mountains and rivers, so retreat here and use "pillow" water to express the super easy heart, which is where the owner and his wife's heart lies.

"Pillow Wave" is not original to the couple, but it is used in the coupling garden, which is more interesting than "Pillow Flow". The pillow flow is in the wild, and the sky is high and wide, reflecting a kind of unruly and uninhibited posture of life.
