The most special general in the national army, did not bring soldiers, did not become soldiers, directly jumped to become a general

Whether in TV dramas or movies about the War of Resistance, we will find that Chiang Kai-shek, the leader of the Nationalist Government, when talking with his subordinates, others call him "teacher", the reason is that the old Chiang Kai-shek made his fortune through the Whampoa Military Academy, and later served as the principal of the first Whampoa Military Academy, so everyone will call him "principal" or "teacher" in order to show closeness.

Did Chiang Kai-shek have any teachers? Leaving aside his private school teachers and middle school teachers, Chiang Kai-shek also visited several teachers after he entered politics, including one teacher with a special status, he neither served as a soldier nor led a soldier, and directly changed from a zero level to a general. Who is he? And why is there such a high treatment?

First, the founder of business accounting

Chiang Kai-shek's teacher was named Yang Duanliu, who was born in 1885 only two years older than Chiang Kai-shek. After graduating from the academy, Yang Duanliu went to Japan to study, and his major was modern middle school curriculum and foreign Chinese, which had nothing to do with the military.

However, when he was studying in Japan, Yang Duanliu joined the League, and after the outbreak of the Xinhai Revolution, he also returned to his homeland to serve as the secretary general of the army.

Soon after, Yang Duanliu returned to Changsha to work as an editor at a local newspaper. Before he returned, he also met Huang Xing on the road, Huang Xing wanted to do the revolution and had no money, so he asked Yang Duanliu to help, and finally the two raised a certain amount of funds through fundraising and special taxes.

When Yuan Shikai declared the restoration, Yang Duanliu drafted a crusade against Yuan Shikai, which was also recognized by all sectors of society.

Yang Duanliu actually had something to do with the revolution, and could be regarded as a veteran of the Kuomintang, but such a person did not choose to enter politics, but wanted to go abroad for further study.

It was also thanks to Huang Xing's help that Yang Duanliu was able to go to London and successfully entered the University of London to study money and banking.

He did not return to China until 1920, after which Yang Duanliu served as a professor of economics and accounting, and at the same time served as an accounting director at the Commercial Press. Knowing that the printing house had suffered a very serious loss, he insisted on going.

Of course, under his accounting reform, it did not take long for the press to reverse the situation and start to make a profit, and Yang Duanliu was also known as the "founder of China's commercial accounting".

Second, the big man in the academic circles, to Chiang Kai-shek as a teacher

At the beginning of 1922, Yang Duanliu's "Introduction to Trust Companies" was published, which was also the earliest book in China to introduce trust companies.

In October of the same year, the "Theory of Accounting Units" was published, and the most notable of them was the subtitle of the book: The Fundamental Problems of Chinese Accounting.

Later, he introduced in detail the origin, classification and other related knowledge of money in "A Brief Introduction to Money", which although it has the nature of popular science, is the earliest monetary work published in China. In addition, many of the teaching materials used in the school at that time were from his hands.

In 1926, Yang Duanliu was favored by Cai Yuanpei, so he invited him to serve as the director of the Academia Sinica, and was also responsible for the post of director of the Institute of Economic Research.

During his reign, Yang Duanliu focused on the Chinese and foreign trade markets, and he personally painted more than 40 foreign trade icons and successfully produced China's first foreign trade data collection. In 1930, he founded the new Wuhan University out of his own pocket and became provost.

At that time, no one in the domestic economic field knew about Yang Duanliu, and even Chiang Kai-shek admired his ability, and later he even became an economic teacher for Chiang Kai-shek. Although he had only attended two classes, Yang Duanliu still remained deeply in Chiang Kai-shek's heart.

Third, refuse to engage in politics, about the three chapters of the law

When Yang Duanliu was the director of the school, Chiang Kai-shek had already stepped onto the political stage, and in the meantime he also invited Yang Duanliu to hold important posts in the Nationalist Government many times.

Chiang Kai-shek first invited him to the National Defense Design Commission as an economic expert, and then personally awarded him the rank of general and made him the director of the Third Department of the Military Commission.

Ke Quan was rejected by Yang Duanliu, who in his opinion only wanted to concentrate on learning, was completely uninterested in politics, and even his own family did not support them in politics.

But Chiang Kai-shek did not care about Yang Ruiliu's refusal, still repeatedly looking for opportunities to invite him, under his soft and hard bubble Yang Ruiliu had to agree, but also put forward three conditions with Chiang Kai-shek.

First, you must stay in school; second, you must not leave the podium; third, you must not wear military uniforms.

Looking at these three conditions alone, I originally thought that Chiang Kai-shek would not agree, but as a result, Chiang Kai-shek unexpectedly agreed.

In this way, a literati with no military experience became an exception in the Kuomintang army, and he was also a general without a military rank.

On weekdays, Yang Duanliu still teaches in school, and only on holidays will he go to Nanjing, and whether he can go or not depends entirely on his mood.

It was not until the abolition of the Audit Office at the outbreak of the War of Resistance Against Japan that Yang Duanliu withdrew from the military circles, after which he devoted himself to the economic field.

epilogue:

After the founding of New China, Yang Duanliu, who was in his sixties, continued to lecture on the podium until his death in 1966. Yang Lao has devoted his life to Chinese money and banking, worked in Wuhan University for more than 16 years, cultivated a large number of financial and economic talents for the country, and is a well-deserved "professor among professors".
