As one of the "Top Ten Internet Terms of 2021", Metacosm is attracting more and more urban attention and accelerating its layout. At present, there is no recognized authoritative definition of the metacosm, but a basic consensus is that the metacosm is essentially a virtualized, digitized process of the real world, which is still evolving. Shenyang, executive director of the New Media Research Center of Tsinghua University, believes that the metacosm itself is not a technology, but an idea and concept, which needs to integrate different new technologies, such as 5G, artificial intelligence, blockchain, big data, etc., emphasizing the integration of virtual reality.
Previously, Bloomberg Industry Research reported that meta-universe will reach a market size of $800 billion in 2024; according to PwC's forecast, the meta-universe market size will reach $1.5 trillion in 2030.
Interpretation: Statistics show that in 2021, Beijing's "meta-universe" trademark registration volume ranked first, followed by Guangzhou, Shenzhen and Shanghai. Judging from the actions of local governments, the cities of the Yangtze River Delta are running into this new track.
In December last year, the "14th Five-Year Plan for the Development of Shanghai Electronic Information Industry" specifically mentioned the "meta-universe" in terms of focusing on frontier areas and forward-looking layout of key technology research and development. The Zhejiang reaction is also more advanced. In addition, in November last year, Du Xiaogang, secretary of the Wuxi Municipal Party Committee, also chatted with young cadres about the "meta-universe", encouraging young cadres to "have accurate insight into the trend of the times, thoroughly analyze the emerging tendencies, and capture major opportunities in a timely manner." On January 1 this year, the Binhu District of Wuxi, Jiangsu Province, held the first meeting of the opening year, officially released the "Taihu Bay Science and Technology Innovation Belt Leading District Meta-universe Ecological Industry Development Plan", proposing to build a domestic meta-universe ecological industry demonstration zone.
However, it must be pointed out that the development of the metaverse depends on the breakthrough of key technologies on the one hand, and on the other hand, it will also encounter new problems such as value ethics and virtual space control. The bubbles and negative problems that may occur in the process of development also pose new challenges to the cities on the "outlet".
