In fact, although the two were good friends and also the confidants of the Qianlong Emperor, the two people were still different. In 1754, Ji Xiaolan, who was full of talent, entered the high school of Jia Shu in the year of establishment, and from then on he stepped into his career.
First he was a Shu Jishi of Hanlin Academy, then he became the chief examiner of the township examination, and he also served as a prefect, and finally because of his talent, he was left behind by Qianlong's side and became a bachelor's attendant. His career path can be said to be very smooth. However, in 1768, Ji Xiaolan leaked information from the imperial court because of his in-laws and was exiled to today's Urumqi.
Later, the Qianlong Emperor revised the "Four Libraries of the Whole Book", because this book contained all the encyclopedias of literature and history before Qianlong, so the imperial court attached great importance to this project, but the president of the book was Liu Tongxun, a university scholar of the dynasty, who was 74 years old at the time, and he knew that he would not be able to take on a big responsibility, so he wanted to go to the imperial court to recommend the knowledgeable Ji Xiaolan.
Therefore, Qianlong summoned Ji Xiaolan back to Beijing and served as the chief editor of the Siku Quanshu. It took ten years to compile the vast "Four Libraries Complete Book".
Obviously, Ji Xiaolan's efforts were not in vain, and Qianlong was very satisfied with this book, so he promoted Ji Xiaolan to the position of Rebbe Shangshu and concurrently a lecturer of the Scriptures. Although Qianlong liked Ji Xiaolan, he valued his talent more than his political achievements, so Ji Xiaolan did not have much political action, which was completely incomparable with Hezhen.
Ji Xiaolan and He Yan are more like year-old friends, occasionally the two will fight because of the political positions of both sides are not used and red-faced, and when He Yan is young, he is outgoing, and he is direct and direct in dealing with the world, and Ji Xiaolan, who is funny and humorous, and who is gradually smooth in the world, will often remind him kindly.
However, above the court, more often than not, it was He yan who cared for Ji Xiaolan. He Yan was a minister who knew Qianlong's mind very well, and he knew that although Qianlong said that he was ready to give way, he could not give up imperial power in his heart, so he joined forces with his ministers to ask Qianlong to retract his promise to abdicate, and after being rejected, he gave Qianlong advice and advice to help Qianlong abdicate and not to retire Yuxi.
Ji Xiaolan fought for the jade seal for the Jiaqing Emperor at the Qianlong Zen Ceremony, which made the Jiaqing Emperor have a lot of respect for Ji Xiaolan, but the Jiaqing Emperor also knew that although Ji Xiaolan was talented, he was not outstanding in politics, so he did not reuse Ji Xiaolan, and in 1805, Jiaqing worshiped Ji Xiaolan as an assistant university scholar, and appointed Ji Xiaolan as the prince Shaobao, making him in charge of the affairs of the State Zijian.
It was also in this year that Ji Xiaolan had an asthma attack, and the 81-year-old Ji Xiaolan completed his life. After his death, Jiaqing remembered his exploits, gave him the nickname "Wenda", and gave him the inscription "Sensitive and studious, and taught him to be a politician", thus affirming his ability and learning. Compared to the end of Hezhen's death, Ji Xiaolan's life was really much better.
The same is Qianlong's favorite, but the two are different fates, so it can be seen that greed is always the culprit who leads him to destruction. If He Yan could foresee the different endings of the two men, perhaps the first corrupt official of the Qing Dynasty would eventually turn back to the shore.
