Bashu mountains and rivers, the spirit of the earth. In this land, many literati and classical texts have been nourished. According to incomplete statistics, there are more than 10,000 kinds of ancient texts in Bashu, and more than 5,000 kinds of existing ones. These documents and classics cover a wide range of aspects, are the carrier of Bashu culture, and are also an important resource for inheriting Chinese civilization. Comprehensive investigation and research on the Bashu literature has always been the dream of successive Generations of Sichuan scholars.

In history, many scholars have devoted their enthusiasm and painstaking efforts to the collation and publication of Bashu literature, and have compiled a collection, complete collection and series of various Bashu literature. The Book of Han and Yiwen Zhi contains: "Thirty-eight chapters of the 'Preface by Yang Xiong': Taixuan XIX, Fayan XIII, Le IV, and Zhen II. This is the first historically recorded collection of all the personal writings of Bashu scholars.

The school edition of the "Flower Collection" of the "Bashu Quanshu"

During the Five Dynasties period, the first "Collection of Flowers" with the works of the Bashu poets as the main body appeared in Chengdu. The Song Dynasty gradually formed personal collections such as "Seven Episodes of Dongpo" (Su Shi), "Four Episodes of Luancheng" (Su Rui), "Complete Collection of Heshan" (Wei Yiweng) and other personal collections, as well as "Three Su Complete Collections", "Three Su Literature Categories", "Chengdu Literature Categories" and other article collections. In the Ming Dynasty, Yang Sheng'an's "Complete Book of Sheng'an", the Sichuan Local Articles Collection "Quanshu YiWenzhi" and its sequels, and the compilation of Bashu historical materials "Shuzhong Guangji" (Cao Xueqiao) and so on. In the Qing Dynasty, Li Qiaoyuan engraved a large series of books "Hanhai" with the collection of rare literature from Bashu as the main content. In modern times, there have been various anthologies of "Shu poems", "Shu words", "Shu wen" and "Sichuan opera". All these have made important attempts for the compilation and publication of Bashu literature.

However, these books are either limited to individual writings, or to family works, or to individual articles, and are not yet a systematic collection and collation of the entire ancient Bashu literature, nor have they been compiled into a voluminous and integrated "Bashu Quanshu".

At the beginning of 2007, the General Office of the State Council issued the "Opinions on Further Strengthening the Protection of Ancient Books", and scholars from Sichuan University and the Sichuan Academy of Social Sciences once again ignited their enthusiasm for sorting out the literature of bashu townships and states, and put forward suggestions and ideas for "compiling the complete book of Bashu and revitalizing Bashu culture".

In 12 years, more than 220 kinds of achievements have been produced

The compilation project of the "Complete Book of Bashu" is to conduct a comprehensive investigation, collection, and systematic collation of Bashu literature, especially to carefully sort out and study the important classics written by successive Bashu scholars or other authors reflecting the history and culture of Bashu from the pre-Qin to the late Qing Dynasty, and to republish them.

For Bashu, which was full of wenzong and talents, it was undoubtedly another huge project to form a systematic bibliography.

In January 2010, the "Complete Book of Bashu" was included in the "Provincial Ancient Books And Literature Collation Planning Project". In April of the same year, with the approval of the National Philosophy and Social Science Planning Office, the "Complete Book of Bashu" was listed as a "major entrusted project of the National Social Science Fund". In October 2012, the project was listed as a "Major Cultural Project in Sichuan Province", with Shu Dagang as the chief expert and chief compiler.

As the general editor of the "Bashu Quanshu", Shu Dagang had previously written and edited the "Essentials of Bashu Literature" and "Shu Studies and Literature", and had systematically sorted out and briefly commented on the historical evolution, basic types and important classics of various types of Bashu literature; at the same time, he had sorted out or studied Yang Xiong's core values, Li Bai's birth and death years, and the scriptural literature of the "Three Sus".

"In the cultural history of Bashu, there are many scholars who have devoted their efforts and enthusiasm to the collation of Bashu literature. Now, we hope to be able to develop and improve more on the basis of our predecessors and create the "Four Libraries of Bashu Culture". "Shu Dagang is full of ambition," If the transfer from the Quan Song Wen to the Confucian Collection is to fill a gap in the three main trunks of the entire Chinese culture; then the compilation of the "Complete Book of Bashu" is to highlight the cultural value of the Bashu land where we are located. ”

Shu Dagang and his colleagues should first conduct the first comprehensive census and systematic examination of the history and current situation of Bashu literature, explore the quantity, storage, inheritance and collection of Bashu literature, and reveal and reflect the history and current situation of Bashu literature in the form of compiling the "Bashu Bibliography" series, so as to facilitate scholars and public readers to query and use. Then, from many Bashu literature, more than 600 kinds of classics with social influence and high academic value were selected, and carefully proofread, punctuation or annotation, and evidence were carefully examined, punctuated or annotated, and the rich connotation and ideological content were deeply excavated. Then, focusing on the development context of "Shu Studies" and the actual cultural history of Bashu, we collected and studied various scattered documents and compiled them into special collections on Confucianism, Buddhism, Taoism, ethnicity, geography, literature, art, science and technology.

After the collation, the "Bashu Literature Rare Book" will be reconstructed. Chengdu is the birthplace of printing, and has produced and preserved a large number of rare books of great value, and the "Shu Edition" book has long become a beloved object deliberately collected by philologists and editionists. The "Bashu Quanshu" project will combine traditional restoration techniques and modern printing technology to restore and photocopy and collate about 100 excellent editions preserved in the Bashu region today, and reprint them in the antique wire-bound mode. As of March 2022, the project has published more than 220 kinds of phased achievements, and as of 2021, more than 20 achievements have been awarded and funded by various national and Sichuan provinces.

Bashu has been a vengeance since ancient times

As the development and evolution of Sinology in the Bashu region, the content of Shuxue also includes the three teachings and nine streams, a subset of jingshi, which is almost equivalent to Sinology in terms of academic coverage, but the region is smaller and the results are less.

In Shu Dagang's view, the characteristics of Shuxue are inclusive, pure, easy to learn, and flourished in literature; and it has a long history and a long history, and each change is beneficial.

Compared with the study of great powers, Shu studies have the same and different characteristics as the Central Plains scholarship, such as talking about the "Three Emperors", the Central Plains is the three emperors of Fuxi, Nüwa, and Shennong, Bashu is the Emperor of Heaven, the Emperor of the Earth, and the Emperor of Ren; speaking of the "Five Emperors", the Central Plains are the Five Emperors of the Yellow Emperor, the Emperor, the Emperor, the Emperor, the Yao, and the Shun, and the Bashu is the Qing Emperor, the Red Emperor, the White Emperor, the Black Emperor, and the Yellow Emperor; the Core Values, the Central Plains are the Five Constants of "Benevolence, Righteousness, Wisdom and Faith", and Bashu is the "Moral Benevolence" Five Virtues; the Han Dynasty Zhongyuan Transmission of the "Five Classics", the Bashu Transmission of the Seven Classics; the Tang Dynasty Zhongyuan Transmission Nine Classics", the "Thirteen Classics" of the Five Dynasties northern Song Dynasty Bashu. These concepts or phenomena have similarities with the Central Plains, but they are not completely consistent, but have the characteristics of Bashu itself.

In terms of literature, from the four masters of the Han Dynasty who "crowned the world with articles": Sima Xiangru, Wang Bao, Yan Junping, and Yang Xiong, to the poet Li Bai of the Tang Dynasty, and then to Su Shi, the first literati of the Song Dynasty. It has always been said that "Bashu has been a wenzong since ancient times".

Why is The Culture of Bashu so good? Shu Dagang's analysis may be closely related to two reasons: One is geographical reasons, Bashu is located inland, and there are fewer wars. Once the war is chaotic, the rich and powerful family and some literati will migrate to Bashu, so the deep hinterland of Bashu has become a cornucopia, attracting the arrival of talents from all over the world. Second, Wen Weng hua Shu was the first to gain the atmosphere. After Qin Shi Huang burned books and pit Confucianism, there were no schools in the world. The first one of Wen Weng Jianxue was in Chengdu. After the construction, Emperor Wudi of the Han Dynasty promoted his experience to the whole country. Where schools are run, there are many talents, such as Sima Xiangru, Yang Xiong and others, which is the first to gain the atmosphere.
