On December 16, a unique family banquet was held in Beijing. The family banquet with the theme of "Home in China" announced the bmw group's strategic upgrade of accelerating electrification, digitalization and sustainability in China, maintaining the same frequency with China, and depicted a beautiful vision of "green waters, green mountains, beautiful mountains, blue sky and white clouds".
In China for the world
IN 1994 BMW entered China. Nine years later, BMW Brilliance landed in Shenyang, indicating that the BMW Group will draw a beautiful blueprint in this part of China. In the past 30 years, the BMW Group currently has more than 25,000 employees and more than 600 dealer outlets in China.

In the first three quarters of 2021, one in every three cars sold by the BMW Group worldwide will be delivered to customers in China, which has become the BMW Group's largest market. As a model for the BMW Group and the Chinese economy to create a win-win situation, bmw brilliance production site in Shenyang has received a total investment of more than 73 billion yuan since 2010, with two OEMs, a powertrain plant and an R&D center in Dadong and Tiexi.
BMW Brilliance's Shenyang production site is one of the BMW Group's largest production sites in the world, with more than 21,000 employees and around 13,000 new cars rolling off the production line every week. At the same time, the Shenyang plant is also a model for the application of "Industry 4.0" technology, widely applying next-generation production technologies such as artificial intelligence, big data, and 5G, and is the world's first production base to achieve 100% coverage of 5G networks.
With the acceleration of electrification in the automotive industry, China has become a global leader in electric vehicles, which also makes China the best choice and partner for the BMW Group in the process of transformation towards electrification, digitalization and sustainable development. In 2022, the BMW Group will open three new or upgraded plants in Shenyang and Zhangjiagang, and put into production the second BMW pure electric vehicle in Shenyang, the pure electric BMW 3 series, further enhancing China's position as the BMW Group's three major new energy vehicle production bases in the world.
With the launch of new products, BMW has strengthened its cooperation with outstanding domestic battery companies, energy companies and high-tech enterprises to jointly develop the upstream and downstream industrial chain of green electric mobility, and enhance its comprehensive strength in electric vehicle research and development, production and service. In 2017, BMW Brilliance was the first to establish a power battery center among high-end car brands, and completed the second phase of the project in 2020, with a total production of more than 100,000 power batteries so far. By the end of 2021, 360,000 public charging piles will be networked by BMW.
At present, bmw has completed bmw i business certification in more than 500 of the more than 600 dealer outlets nationwide, and continues to promote the upgrading of the national sales and service network. It is worth looking forward to that in 2022, BMW will work with dealers to pilot the "BMW i Experience Store" in the city center to respond to China's growing demand for new energy and new experiences.
New generation, new height
In China, the BMW Group has sold more than 130,000 new energy vehicles since 2014. In the first 11 months of this year, the BMW iX3 sold 17,000 units in the Chinese market, and the momentum is stable and rising. The official launch of the innovative BMW iX has opened a new chapter in the electrification process of the BMW Group in China. The "China First" strategy will further accelerate the pace of launch of BMW pure electric products in China.
According to the BMW Group's planning, in 2022, the BMW brand will present five pure electric models for Chinese users, including BMW iX3, innovative BMW iX, innovative BMW i4, pure electric BMW 3 series and a pure electric flagship. By the end of 2023, the BMW Group will offer around 13 pure electric products in the Chinese market.
It is worth noting that in 2025, the BMW Group will launch a pure electric platform with a new architecture called "New Generation". It features a completely redesigned IT and software architecture, a new generation of high-performance electric drive systems and batteries, a new sustainability benchmark for the circular economy, and a significant increase in the use of recyclable materials. The "new generation" model will be a key driver for BMW to deliver 10 million pure electric vehicles over the next 10 years.
Sustainable Enjoy the blue sky
Sustainability is the cornerstone of the BMW Group's corporate strategy. As the first German car manufacturer to join the "Corporate Ambition to Contribute to the 1.5°C Temperature Limit Target", the BMW Group has set a target of reducing the average life cycle carbon emissions of bicycles by 40% by 2030 compared with 2019. Electrification is undoubtedly one of the biggest drivers on the road to climate neutrality, but BMW's sustainable strategy goes far beyond electric vehicles. In fact, BMW is more concerned about carbon emission reduction throughout the life cycle of the car – from the supply chain, production, use to recycling.
Advocating a circular economy and realizing the recycling of resources is also the focus of BMW's sustainable development, and the average vehicle currently uses nearly 30% recyclable and reusable materials in the manufacturing process, which will be gradually increased to 50% in the future. Take the innovative BMW iX, for example, which uses hydroelectric power, the proportion of raw cobalt in the battery cathode material has been reduced to less than 10%, the center console control panel is made of sustainably produced FSC certified wood, the interior and fabric/microfiber interior is made of 50% recycled polyester fiber, and the carpet floor mat is made of 100% recycled nylon.
Not only that, BMW Brilliance has released its "Sustainability Report" for eight consecutive years since 2014, disclosing its ecological footprint to the public. Since the end of 2019, BMW Brilliance's Shenyang production site has used 100% renewable electricity. In 2021, BMW Brilliance once again ranked first in the "Green Development Index of Automobile Enterprises" and won the honor of "National Green Demonstration Factory" for the fourth consecutive year. In 2020, BMW Brilliance was awarded the "2020 Corporate Best Practice Award for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals" by the United Nations Global Compact China Network for its achievements in sustainable supply chain management, and was the only automotive company among the 20 awardees.
The BMW Group takes sustainable development as the core of its strategy and contributes to China's realization of the goal of "double carbon". With the advent of the "new generation" and even longer in the future, BMW's voice is self-confidence and commitment: always uphold the "home in China" thinking, and always maintain the same frequency with China's economy and society, coordinated development, and win-win results.
