Citizens of Humanity Group has grown 1 million pounds of renewable cotton through a partnership with nonprofit environmental organization Kiss The Ground. According to the USDA's "Acreage" report, released June 30, about 12.5 million acres of cotton were planted in the United States last year. Five farmers participating in the "Kiss the Ground Cotton" cooperative project produced a total of 1 million pounds of renewable cotton.
At present, the production scale of renewable cotton is equivalent to more than 700,000 knitted tops. Amy Williams, CEO of Citizens of Humanity Group, said the company will conduct an annual audit of each farm involved in the project to ensure renewable methods are in place. The sector expects to double the number of renewable cotton growers in the U.S. by 2023, while a similar project is planned to be rolled out in Turkey.
