"Forbidden City Tencent Immersive Digital Experience Exhibition" opened in Shenzhen

In November 2017, the Palace Museum and Tencent successfully held the first "Culture + Technology" International Forum in Beijing, after four years of development and precipitation, especially since the experience of the new crown epidemic, what kind of impact and changes will science and technology bring to the field of culture and museum? On December 15, 2021, the second "Culture + Technology" International Forum, jointly sponsored by the Palace Museum and Tencent, and supported by the Museum Digitalization Professional Committee of the China Association of Museums and the Informatization Professional Committee of the China Cultural Relics Society, opened in Tencent Binhai Building, Shenzhen.

The theme of this year's forum is "Impact and Enlightenment - A New Leap forward in digital culture services", which aims to further promote the digital concept of museums, promote the application and innovation of new technologies, and jointly discuss the development direction of culture and science and technology. More than 50 experts and scholars from many well-known cultural institutions, universities and technology companies at home and abroad gathered to discuss the future of the museum in the digital age.

At the opening ceremony, Wang Xudong, president of the Palace Museum, mentioned: "The 'Culture + Technology' International Forum aims to integrate the superior resources of culture and science and technology, and build a cutting-edge academic exchange platform for international parties. In the digital age and the epidemic, we should re-examine the positioning and mission of museums with a longer-term perspective, dig deep into and explain the pluralistic values of cultural heritage, give new vitality to cultural heritage, and answer the propositions of the times of creative transformation and innovative development. ”

Cheng Wu, vice president of Tencent Group, said in his speech: "In 2016, the Forbidden City joined hands with Tencent to explore the digitization of cultural and expo, on the one hand, through 'new cultural creation' to create screen-brushing works such as ancient paintings and singing, so that traditional culture can become the trend culture of the younger generation; at the same time, it is based on' New technology 'helps digital infrastructure such as digital collection of cultural relics, and creates WeChat mini programs such as the Digital Forbidden City, so that cultural relics are within reach of the cloud, helping China's cultural museum to plug in a pair of new technologies and new cultural creation wings, out of an innovative model with Chinese characteristics, and contributing Chinese solutions to the development of global cultural museums. The forum lasted for two days and consisted of three sub-forums. Forum 1 "Resonance • New Development of Digital Culture from a Global Perspective" focuses on the development situation of digital culture services under the impact of the epidemic, Forum 2 "Digital Transformation Strategy of Traditional Culture" focuses on the deep integration of traditional culture and digital technology means, forum 3 "Bursting • Aggregation and Improvement of Digital Culture Services" combines specific cases to explore the practical methods of further integration of culture and technology, and conducts multi-dimensional professional discussions around the overall development, efficiency improvement and ecological construction of digital culture services.

The forum set up a special salon session in the Greater Bay Area, where five guests from the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, the Palace Museum, the Guangdong Provincial Museum, the Hong Kong Museum of History and Tencent discussed specific directions such as the cultural policy and construction of the Greater Bay Area, the cultural resources of the Greater Bay Area, and the exchange and cultivation of talents between Hong Kong, Macao and the Mainland.

The "'Pattern' Carrying Road - Forbidden City Tencent Immersive Digital Experience Exhibition" jointly sponsored by the Palace Museum and Tencent will also be held during the forum. This is the first time that the Ultra-high-precision "Digital Cultural Relics" of the Forbidden City have been exhibited in Shenzhen, and some scenes of Tired Qinzhai have been restored with the help of VR and AR technology. Following the 2020 "Changyou Duobaoge" mini program to show the audience the beauty of the patterns contained in the cultural relics in the Collection of the Forbidden City, the Forbidden City and Tencent have once again joined forces to lead the audience to immerse themselves in the world of patterns in ancient buildings and collections with the help of Tencent's immersive rendering, image search and panoramic sound technologies, and appreciate the beauty and wisdom therein.

The exhibition has a total of 7 exhibition areas, where the audience can enjoy the naked-eye 3D "digital cultural relics" and 22 times high-definition enlarged cultural relics up to 5.3 meters, feel the experience beyond the physical cultural relics exhibition, and may also discover hidden mysterious three-dimensional space "Easter eggs". The exhibition also carefully created 10 annual punching points, allowing the audience to feel the beauty of the four seasons of the Forbidden City and leave exclusive streamer images.

The exhibition is held at the Shenzhen Maritime World Culture and Arts Center and will be open to the public free of charge from December 18, 2021 to February 12, 2022.
