Recently, the latest notice issued by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology shows that from January 1, 2022, newly produced passenger cars need to be equipped with a "car black box" EDR system, that is, a driving event recorder.

Maybe everyone doesn't know what the EDR system is, but many people know the black box through film and television works. The EDR system is the same data recording system as the black box on the aircraft, which is used to record the key operating data of the car in the three stages before, during and after the collision (including speed, ABS status, seat belt status, etc.).
It should be known that although some smart cars also have the function of recording data, their data information is not published to the public, and it is difficult for consumers to obtain relevant information. Especially in the event of an accident, everyone has their own opinions, and it is difficult to judge the specific cause of the accident and cause various disputes. Especially in recent years, new energy vehicles and smart cars led by Tesla have frequent accidents, and the topic of rights protection and hot lists have appeared frequently, especially in the data, most car companies are not open, and it is difficult for people to judge the specific cause of the accident.
The emergence of the black box will represent that the regulatory authorities will strengthen the supervision of the car, and the EDR will judge the cause of the specific accident based on the recording and extraction of the data. China's EDR standard was determined at the end of November 2019, and the participating units of the standard cover mainstream car companies such as SAIC, Geely, Dongfeng, FAW, Changan, and Weilai.
As early as 2014, the United States clarified that all new cars need to be mandatorily equipped with EDR, South Korea has been mandatory to install EDR since December 2015, Europe requires mandatory installation of new cars in March 2022, and plans to equip stock vehicles in 2024. At present, many countries have written EDRs for passenger cars into bills or industry standards.
Judging from the new car declaration released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, many electric vehicles have been equipped with EDR, such as BMW Brilliance i3, BYD Song PLUS DM-i, etc., and as early as September, the new car declaration has been equipped with EDR, and this layout will continue to accelerate in the future. After the implementation of this policy, the safety protection of consumers will be improved, especially in the determination of accidents, there will be an open and fair basis. Car companies can no longer use the data adjustment as a reason to excuse themselves and assume their responsibilities accordingly.
