In April, the automotive OTA industry ushered in a new regulatory trend.

The Equipment Industry Development Center of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology issued the "Notice on Carrying out online upgrade filing of automotive software" on the 15th, which clarified that the automobile manufacturers that have obtained the road motor vehicle production access license and their production of automobile products with OTA upgrade functions and the OTA upgrade activities implemented should be filed.

The issuance of this paper notice regulates and restricts the OTA upgrade activities of major car companies. First of all, the vehicle enterprise can only carry out OTA upgrade activities after completing the filing; secondly, the notice also requires that the OTA upgrade should ensure that the automotive products meet the relevant requirements and ensure the consistency of automotive product production. These requirements can effectively prohibit the random and disorderly upgrading of some enterprises and protect the legitimate rights and interests of consumers.

With the continuous tightening of automotive OTAs at the regulatory level, OTAs, as an important symbol of automotive intelligence, are also being valued by more and more large international car companies.

Volvo announced in April that from 2022, all volvo new cars will achieve remote upgrade OTA functions; Volkswagen's software company CARIAD has also officially landed in China, and one of its important tasks is to achieve the first OTA upgrade of ID.family products in China in the second half of 2022.

So, in the past April, which car companies have carried out new OTA upgrades?

According to the incomplete statistics of Cheyun, a total of 8 brands of multiple models have undergone OTA upgrades in April, of which THE AITU M5 and Skyrim ME5 are the first OTA upgrades since their listing. In terms of upgrading content, the new version of NIO introduces AutoNavi Maps, providing users with new map choices, while Dongfeng Honda and Skyrim ME5 have optimized user privacy and security through OTA upgrades.

NIO:

In April, NIO pushed the Update of Aspen 3.1.2 version through FOTA in batches for vehicles with the current version of 3.0.7 and above, mainly involving navigation map upgrades and other experience improvements.

In the voice of many users, WEILAI introduced AutoNavi Map in this OTA upgrade, before WEILAI's models only carried Baidu Maps, this update provides users with new choices. After the upgrade, the owner can choose the map navigation that he is accustomed to using, and after the map switch is successful, the system will remember the current map selection, and the next time you use the car, you do not need to switch again.

In addition, in order to facilitate the seamless switching between Baidu Maps and AutoNavi Maps, after the map is switched, personalized navigation settings such as home & company address, route preference options, license plate restrictions and other personalized navigation settings will remain synchronized; map-related functions such as pilot assistance, group travel, and power-up assistant can also be used normally.

On the basis of ThePen 3.1.2 version, WEILAI has since released two application updates, adding NIO immersive sound and power-up resource recommendation cards respectively, which can bring immersive in-car music experience and more convenient energy supplementary experience.

tesla:

Tesla welcomed a new version in April, which is also Tesla's third OTA upgrade this year, the new version number is 2022.12.1, mainly involving 4 content update optimizations.

The new version adds the function of customizing the settings of the bottom menu bar, the owner can fix commonly used applications such as front/rear windshield defrost, wiper and seat heating to the bottom menu bar of the touch screen, long press any application icon to enter edit mode, and then drag the relevant icon to the bottom bar to quickly open the application. This new feature is undoubtedly more convenient and fast for car owners, but some owners complain that the seat heating is updated quickly in the summer, and most car owners hope to quickly check energy consumption and tire pressure.

The new version also optimizes the child lock control function, which can now be opened only for the side of the rear door, making it easy for rear passengers to get on and off the bus while also protecting children's safety. In addition, this update adds a new Turkish language.

AITO Asks M5:

Since April 15, AITO Q&I M5 has been pushing the first OTA upgrade for users, with version number V1.0.102SP05.

The first OTA upgrade mainly focuses on the application of cockpit software, mainly involving the optimization of functions such as main seat welcome, light prompt, smart voice, large-screen UI interface, and turn signal tone. Among them, the voice broadcast control audio news and voice command navigation functions have been added, and the video playback and driving navigation design in the large-screen UI interface have been optimized and updated to make the interface design more perfect.

AITO M5 only officially opened delivery on March 5 this year, and ushered in the first OTA upgrade in the second month after listing, which is inseparable from Huawei's technical empowerment. And it is worth noting that this car achieved sales of 3045 units in the first month of delivery, which is a very good result.

Skyrim ME5:

Skyline ME5, which has been delivered since November last year, also ushered in its first OTA upgrade in April, which includes 4 categories and 14 upgrades, covering digital cockpit, vehicle control, intelligent driving, car experience and other aspects.

In terms of cockpit, not only updated the APP software such as AutoNavi Map, Himalaya, litchi Podcast, etc., but also optimized the instrument and large-screen fault prompt information; added two new functions in the car control to make the car more convenient; in terms of intelligent driving, a number of detailed optimizations were carried out such as panoramic image, blind spot monitoring and on-board wireless information terminals, so as to ensure driving intelligence and safety.

In addition, this update also improves the user's privacy, and the account login operation is performed only after obtaining the user's permission and authorization.

Volvo:

Volvo announced in April that all new cars will implement OTA functions from 2022, and in the Chinese market, models that are already equipped with the new Volvo intelligent interconnection system can be updated to version 2.0 through this online remote upgrade.

In the latest OTA, the Android native car machine system jointly developed with Google ushered in a new version, and the OTA upgrade allows the car machine system to be as smooth as the mobile phone in real time. The upgrade content also includes in-vehicle function maintenance, as well as mobile application function upgrades, etc., a series of improvements and optimizations, so that the car experience is improved again. Among them, the navigation algorithm of AutoNavi Map APP is fully optimized, and the Tencent Aiqu Listening APP has added a stereo mode and richer audio content.

The current models equipped with the new Volvo Smart Connected System in the Chinese market include: XC40 Pure Electric Edition, new Pure Electric C40, 2022 Volvo CX60, 2022 Volvo S90 and 2022 Volvo V90CC.

Polar Star 2:

At the beginning of April, Polar Star 2 pushed the latest P2.0 software upgrade for users, and the native Android Automotive OS was upgraded to android R system (Android R), bringing more application and system potential.

In terms of in-car function improvements, the new version has optimized and improved the network connection of the car-machine system, radio signal reception and GPS positioning of the navigation system; while in terms of application function improvement, the new version has optimized the power status, door and parking air conditioner, and now supports the display of real-time power in the charging state.

It is understood that since the launch of Polarstar 2, a total of 10 major OTA air upgrades have been carried out, a total of nearly 100 functional updates, and an average of one software update is released every 7 weeks.

Since April 13, Lynk & Co 09 has pushed a new upgrade with version number LYNK OS Y1.1.3 to users in different regions in batches, mainly focusing on desktop experience, call experience and multi-command control car.

After this upgrade, the left side bar of the car machine desktop can display more information, such as weather information, etc., and the caller ID can also pop up through the left side bar; Lynk & Co 09 not only supports continuous voice command wake-up, but also adds dual command for car control this time, such as turning on the air conditioner and increasing the wind speed. It is worth noting that the OTA channel has also been upgraded this time, and the subsequent upgrade of Lynk & Co 09 can greatly improve the download speed in the future.

Lynk & Co Watch K19 Lynk & Co 09 Smart Car Control Watch also opened the 1.1.38 version of the OTA upgrade in batches on the evening of April 11, adding Bluetooth key switch functions and Alipay functions.

Dongfeng Honda:

At the beginning of April, Dongfeng Honda upgraded its models equipped with honda CONNECT3.0 (intelligent guide interconnection) system, including the 11th generation Civic, Yingshipai, the new Alissen, and the new Xiangyu.

The OTA upgrade adds multi-type car information reports to help car owners record driving index, energy consumption performance, trip details and provide car tips; optimizes the network signal, enhances the network disconnection recovery mechanism after passing through the weak signal area, and ensures the normal use of intelligent interactive services; and this upgrade also improves the security of driving data and personal privacy data.

OTA has become an important means for car companies to enhance product competitiveness, and traditional international car companies have begun to step up the pace of catching up with new forces, laying out automotive software, providing efficient OTA functions, and enabling cars to grow.

At the same time, we should also realize that non-standard OTA upgrades may also change the functions and performance of vehicle products, bring vehicle safety risks, and even endanger public safety, and the increasing supervision of OTAs by relevant departments can promote OTAs to truly exert its positive value.
