For ordinary people, 101 years old is really an advanced age. But who would have thought that half of his life would have been spent in seclusion.
The first and longest "accompanying" him was named Liu Yiguang, a classmate of Dai Kasa and Lin Biao, and a fourth-term student of Huangpu, who was dead set on old Jiang.
Therefore, his attitude toward Zhang Xueliang was very bad, not only did he not guarantee Zhang Xueliang's normal living supply, but he often ignored the items sent to him by Zhang Xueliang's relatives and friends, and without Zhang Xueliang's permission, he privately looked through the emails received by Zhang Xueliang.
In this way, it is reasonable to say that Zhang Xueliang is very hateful to Liu Yiguang. In 1962, Liu Yiguang, who had guarded Zhang Xueliang for 25 years, no longer interfered in Zhang Xueliang's private life and officially retired, but at the farewell banquet, General Zhang called him a benefactor and wanted to give him a large amount of money.
In October 1936, the anti-Japanese situation in China became more and more severe, and Chiang Kai-shek was still bent on eradicating the Communist Party. Zhang Xueliang wrote to the letter many times, asking for an end to the civil war and jointly resisting Japan, but was rejected by the old Chiang Kai-shek. In December of the same year, Chiang Kai-shek launched another encirclement and suppression plan, but Zhang Xueliang's bitter advice was unsuccessful.
On December 12-25, 1936, Zhang Xueliang and Yang Hucheng discussed the matter and secretly launched a military advisory, known in history as the "Xi'an Incident". With the joint efforts of the Central Committee, Premier Zhou and others, Chiang Kai-shek was forced to accept the six-point proposal to stop the civil war and carry out a joint resistance against Japan.
Everything went very smoothly, and on the afternoon of the 25th, Jiang was released and the "Xi'an Incident" was resolved peacefully. Zhang Xueliang accompanied Chiang Kai-shek and his wife to Nanjing. But no one thought that General Zhang had gone for more than fifty years. From the mainland to Taiwan, freedom was lost.
On December 31, 1936, Zhang Xueliang was sentenced to ten years in prison by the Nationalist government, followed by a pardon.
Just when everyone was overjoyed and looking forward to Zhang Xueliang's safe return, Chiang Kai-shek suddenly attacked, secretly sent Zhang Xueliang to the Song Mansion, and assigned him a guard chief and a secretary.
However, on the surface, he arranged for Zhang Xueliang to be a guard chief and secretary, but in fact he was responsible for monitoring and putting Zhang Xueliang under house arrest. The person who received this task was Liu Yiguang. Liu Yiguang admired old Jiang very much, so he took pains to put Zhang Xueliang under house arrest.
At that time, Lao Jiang stipulated that Zhang Xueliang's range of activities should not exceed one kilometer, liu Yiguang directly reduced it to 200 meters, and he arranged for the soldiers of the gendarmerie company to take three steps and one post, five steps and one sentry, forming a heavy encirclement. Such a deployment has not changed from the mainland to Taiwan.
Not only that, Liu Yiguang also took his family over and ate and lived with Zhang Xueliang. In such a repressive environment, Zhang Xueliang's every word and deed was under Liu Yiguang's surveillance.
Because of Liu Yiguang's meritorious and loyal guards, Chiang Kai-shek favored him and promoted him to major general in less than three years.
In October 1947, Zhang Zhizhong came to see Zhang Xueliang with his wife and children, and Zhang Xueliang was overjoyed, talked with Zhang Zhizhong for nearly two hours, and entrusted Zhang Zhizhong to convey to Chiang Kai-shek his two demands: first, to restore his freedom, and second, to ask Liu Yiguang to no longer manage his own life.
After hearing these two demands, Chiang Kai-shek did not immediately express his position, and Zhang Zhizhong was not sure of the meaning of the old Chiang Kai-shek, so he had to go back and wait for the news. It didn't take long for Taiwan's police commander to order that no one should visit Zhang Xueliang without Chiang Kai-shek's consent.
In 1949, at the strong request of Zhang Xueliang, Chiang Kai-shek had to transfer Liu Yiguang away from liu yiguang and lecture him, and Zhang Xueliang finally got out of control. Later, the reporter asked him how his relationship with Liu Yiguang was, and Zhang Xueliang said that I still miss him.
In 1962, at the farewell banquet of Liu Yiguang's promotion to the Security Bureau, Zhang Xueliang proposed to give Liu Yiguang a large amount of money, and everyone present was puzzled, and Zhang Xueliang did not explain too much. Jiang Jingguo, who was invited to the banquet, refused Zhang Xueliang's kindness instead of Liu Yiguang.
After the banquet, Miss Zhao Si expressed her doubts to Zhang Xueliang, why should Liu Yiguang be called a benefactor? Zhang Xueliang looked at Miss Zhao Si and told the beginning and end of the matter. It turned out that Liu Yiguang really saved Zhang Xueliang's life twice.
One was in early 1937, when Liu Yiguang escorted Zhang Xueliang to Xuedou Temple at the mouth of Fenghua Creek. On this day, Zhang Xueliang walked in Myokodai as usual. Suddenly, a gunshot rang out, and the target was Zhang Xueliang.
One shot was missed, and just as the shooter was preparing to shoot a second bullet, Liu Yiguang flew up and grabbed the attacker, successfully saving Zhang Xueliang. After catching the person, it was only then that it was Yuan Jingzhi who wanted Zhang Xueliang's life.
Who is Yuan Jingzhi? It turned out that she was Chiang Kai-shek's niece and granddaughter-in-law, and her husband, Jiang Xiaoxian, had become a victim of the Xi'an Incident. She mistakenly believed that Zhang Xueliang was the culprit in killing her husband, so she planned the murder, hoping that Zhang Xueliang would use his life to offset the revenge of killing her husband.
Another time, in May 1945, when Zhang Xueliang's life was hanging on the line due to acute appendicitis, and he had to undergo surgery. However, the place where Zhang Xueliang was placed under house arrest could not provide medical conditions for surgery, and the doctors accompanying him were anxious.
Liu Yiguang looked at Zhang Xueliang, who was suffering from illness, and his life was at stake, and he could not allow him to think about it much. Without reporting to Old Jiang, Liu Yiguang decisively ordered him to be taken to the hospital.
It is precisely because of this decisiveness that he did not miss the best time for rescue, so that Zhang Xueliang saved his life. Afterwards, Zhang Xueliang was very grateful to Liu Yiguang.
The grace of dripping water should be repaid by the spring, not to mention that Liu Yiguang was a life-saving grace for Zhang Xueliang, and it is not too much for Zhang Xueliang to call him a benefactor. Therefore, the relationship between Zhang Xueliang and Liu Yiguang is quite complicated, although there are many conflicts, but there is also a unique understanding between them.
When Liu Yiguang died, Zhang Xueliang had already gained a certain degree of freedom. At Liu Yiguang's condolence meeting, Zhang Xueliang came with Miss Zhao Si, who had become his wife, to send the confidant on his last journey.
Mr. Zhang Xueliang's life can be said to be full of twists and turns, and more than fifty years of house arrest on anyone's body is not comfortable. But he survived, not only that, but also lived a good life, a long life. His enemies were buried in the yellow earth one step ahead of him, and he was the only one who laughed to the end.
It is not difficult to see that there is no clear definition between the benefactor and the enemy, just like Zhang Xueliang and Liu Yiguang, their positions are different, and the beliefs they adhere to are different, which also determines that there is an indelible contradiction between them.
But this does not prevent Zhang Xueliang from regarding Liu Yiguang as a friend or even a confidant. It is indeed a pity that we cannot sit together and talk about it, but it is also a pleasure to have spiritual resonance.
However, we are bystanders of history, and we cannot speculate much about the past graces and grievances. The deceased is gone, perhaps everyone's beliefs are different, and the choices made are different.
