In 1946, the young marshal and his secretary Zhao Yidi (Zhao Si) were forcibly transferred to Taiwan Province, China. After that, they migrated to Hsinchu, Kaohsiung, Taipei and other places. In the mountains, the boring life made Zhao Yidi learn to smoke, and the addiction to smoking deepened, which also hurt her health. After smoking for a long time, the lungs became cancerous and underwent a major operation to remove half of the lobes of the lungs.
