"Boy" won the "Fu Lei Translation and Publication Award" in the literary category

Recently, at the Fu Lei Library in Zhoupu Town, Pudong, Shanghai, the translator Fu Lei's hometown, the 13th Fu Lei Translation and Publication Award was finally announced: "Boys" published by Zhejiang Literature and Art Publishing House won the literary award, and the translator was Huang Yaqin.

The "Fu Lei Translation and Publication Award" is named after Fu Lei, a Chinese titan French literary translator, and is funded by the French Embassy in China to reward Chinese mainland Chinese translations translated from French. French Ambassador to China Luo Liang, French Consul General in Shanghai Ji Bowei, Director of the French Department of Peking University and Chairman of the Fu Lei Translation and Publication Award Organizing Committee Dong Qiang, Vice Chairman of the Shanghai Writers Association Sun Ganlu, Professor Liu Qing of East China Normal University, and many well-known figures in the cultural circles attended the award ceremony.

"The Boy" is a novel by French writer Marcus Marte, which won the Fermina Prize in 2016. "Boys" uses a unique narrative, that is, a parallel narrative of personal small stories and the big history of mankind, writing about the journey of a nameless boy to find the world, telling in poetic language about the events that boys experienced during the journey that are large and small enough to cast history, and examining the development process of human civilization. Huang Yaqin's translation faithfully embodies the style of "Boy": strong and distinct character emotions, concise words, distinct rhythms, poetic implications, prose arbitrariness, and the melody and rhythm of music.

This year's Fu Lei Award received a total of 47 entries, including 35 in the social science category and 12 in the literature category. The final judging meeting was presided over by Wu Jialin, chairman of the jury of this year's Fu Lei Award and an expert in classical Chinese poetry, in addition to 8 permanent judges and two winners of the previous Fu Lei Award, Ning Chunyan and Wang Wei, as well as Sun Ganlu and Liu Qing participated in the judging work as special invited judges.
