But as the saying goes: "Dragons give birth to dragons, phoenixes give birth to phoenixes", although these heroes either die in battle or grow old. But their descendants, inheriting their will and valor, are still active on the battlefield or politically. This article is going to talk about Zhang Fei's son Zhang Bao. In the rendition, although Zhang Bao was brave, he was not as good as his father Zhang Fei, and was recognized by the Three Kingdoms as an enemy. But Zhang Bao, among his peers, can be said to be at the middle and upper levels. Even when Zhuge Liang was stabilizing the Shu kingdom, together with Guan Yu's son Guan Xing, he was known as "Xiao Guan Zhang", and Zhang Bao's strength and charm were still remarkable.
In the Eighty-second Book of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms, it is described:
Huan Yi scolded: "Father Ru has become a headless ghost; now Ru has come to beg for death, so that he will not be wise!" Zhang Bao was furious and shot straight at Sun Huan. Huan was behind Xie Jing, and suddenly the horse came to greet him.
The two generals fought for more than thirty times, Xie Jing was defeated and left, and Zhang Bao rushed to take advantage of the victory. Li Yi saw that Xie Jing was defeated, and hurriedly patted the horse wheel dipped in a golden axe to engage. Zhang Bao and Li fought for more than twenty years, regardless of victory or defeat. Tan Xiong, a general in the Wu army's camp, saw that Zhang Bao was brave and Li Yi could not win, but he put a cold arrow and shot at the horse that Zhang Bao was riding.
The best way to judge the force is to look at his own battle record, and when he avenged his father's conquest of the State of Wu, this was Zhang Bao's first battle. In the rendition, Zhang Bao first fought with Xie Jing for thirty rounds in this battle, then won, and then fought with Li Yi, regardless of victory or defeat.
Of course, here, we can see that in fact, Zhang Bao is a sure winner. Even the enemy thought that his teammates could not defeat Zhang Bao, and they had to put cold arrows outside in order to make Zhang Bao suffer a loss. What's more, before this, Zhang Bao still suffered from wheel wars, and it can be said that this battle has the wind and bone of his father's bravery on the battlefield.
But his opponents, who are not very famous in history, may not have sufficient evidence. It doesn't matter, as he makes many appearances later.

As mentioned above, Zhang Bao and Guan Xing, as important figures in the second generation of the Shu Kingdom, were also quite valued by Zhuge Liang in the military.
Naturally, in the process of Zhuge Liang's Northern Expedition, Zhuge Liang would often let these young generals come out to hone. Unfortunately, in the Northern Expedition, although Zhang Bao was very active, many times, it was the leading soldiers who were planned to cooperate with veteran generals such as Zhao Yun or Huang Zhong, who went into battle as a deputy general, and naturally fought very little with Cao Wei's famous generals. According to the Ninety-fourth Edition of the Romance of the Three Kingdoms:
Guan Xing and Zhang Bao attacked the two soldiers, surrounded Cao Zhen and Guo Huai, and killed them for a while. Cao and Guo led the defeated soldiers to rush away. The Shu soldiers were all victorious.
And this record can be said to be Zhang Bao's best record. Together with Guan Xing, he defeated Cao Zhen and Guo Huai, and then chased after him and took Cao Wei's camp.
Why is it the best? Because in this battle, although it is said that he did not get the head of a famous martial general, but defeated Cao Zhen and Guo Huai, who are these two people? Cao Zhen was Cao Cao's adopted son, not only famous on the battlefield, but also after Cao Pi's death, he even served as an auxiliary minister, responsible for fighting against the Shu state. It can be said that his level of force, although it is not as good as that of the Five Tiger Generals, is by no means a mediocre person.
As for Guo Huai, not to mention, after Zhang Gao's death, he took office as a great general against the Shu army, and militarily, he was even able to subdue the Hu people, and when he confronted Jiang Wei, he even saw through Jiang Wei's plan, so that Jiang Wei suffered two consecutive defeats.
Zhang Bao's strength value in the Three Kingdoms was still good, although with the help of Guan Xing, but the victory over Guo Huai and Cao Zhen was indeed real material, and it was by virtue of this that he laid the level of his martial arts. In the Battle of the Northern Expedition, although Zhang Bao was heroic, he finally fell accidentally to the mountain stream and was injured and died, which was heartbreaking. From Zhuge Liang's reaction, we can see that Xiang Xiang was very sorry for Zhang Bao's death, and originally wanted to cultivate himself as the main force of his future Northern Expedition. From the side, Zhang Bao's degree of martial courage was indeed deeply trusted by Xiang Xiang, otherwise it would not have made Zhuge Liang vomit blood. It can be seen from this that if Zhang Fei's level of force belongs to the first echelon in the Three Kingdoms. Then his son Zhang Bao, although he died young, is not the first class, but he can also gain the upper hand in the second echelon.
